Anyone have a trick for re-installing the main spring in a Handi-Rifle? I only found one YouTube video, and it isn't very user-friendly. I had to replace the other spring (lifter spring). That was no problem, but the main one is another matter.
Check out Graybeard Outdoors forum. They have tons of info on the Handi rifles in the H&R CenterRifle section.
You might have to dig through it but I'm sure they have some info on what you want to do.
Mine is actually a Buffalo Rifle. I thought it was the same action as the Handi-Rifle, but it looks different from mine. I found one YT video, but the part on the mainspring is pretty crappy. There has to be a way to re-install it. Otherwise, anyone know a good gunsmith near Ottawa that could do it?
OK, so, I've been able to do it. I have a sneaky feeling that they #### the spring through the stock bolt hole, but anyhow, the video I found showed the guy using a 3/32 punch to push the string back. But after about 7,311,285 tries, that didn't work so well, so I used a very small round file and a triangular one to file a small notch in my punch, so the spring doesn't slip out, and it went in fairly easily.
