Just read on another site about how many people are NOT BUYING S&W due to them putting integral locks on many handguns. These are locks activated by an allen key type key which locks/unlocks an additional safety. Taurus was the first to use these but recent reports had indicted that a bump can alter the locked status.

Old S&W are being bought rapidly, but new S&W are piling up on the shelves of US gun shops. I personally don't see the big deal but there is a grass roots boycott of the new S&W that's started.

The whole boycott thing is highly overrated. There are a few hardcore old-timers out there, who take every opportunity to ##### and moan about "them goddamn locks" on Internet message boards, but the average consumer doesn't care. S&W is still the nation's largest gunmaker and, for the first time in many years, is profitable once again. So things can’t be all that bad.

IMO, the boycott is counterproductive. S&W was being sued for hundreds of millions of dollars by the federal government was forced implement the internal lock feature as part of the settlement. If they didn't settle and lost, they would have been out of business. Even if they didn't lose, they'd probably go bankrupt due to litigation costs alone. They had no choice.

The blame lies with the morons who elected Bill Clinton, not S&W. In my book, Smith & Wesson is one of the better gun makers out there, as it provides excellent customer service and, for the most part, puts out a quality product (which can't be said of many other once-great U.S. gunmakers). I would rather deal with the stupid lock then see the company go bankrupt.
