Interchangeability of shell holders?

Thanks, I'm going to Florida for 2 weeks and I want to pick up some equipment in the States. I'll have an $800 duty free limit and I'm not passing up this oppurtunity to save some money.

Make sure you have a list of Shellholder numbers you need for various brands, you can find a comparison online or manufactures site for their own.

RCBS #2 and Lee #2 are for different calibres for example and you may not find all the same brand in one place with recent buying events.

Just be aware that not all shellholders will work in all accessories. Hornady shellholders have a larger hole than RCBS,Lyman and etc, and are req'd for their trimmer at least. The others won't work without opening the hole up to .300. Lee has special shellholders for their priming tool.

I was wondering if the shell holders are interchangeable between different presses, ie rcbs shell holder in a hornady press?

Pick up a package of 12 Lee shell head holders, actually pick up two. You need different style holders for the hand priming tool as well.

These will cover 95% of the average hand loader's needs. You should check to see which specialty holders you might need, like for the WSMs or some of the rimmed black powder cartridges.

The Lee shell head holders work fine in my Hornady press, I've had others tell me they don't. Maybe they were talking about a special press??? They work well in my RCBS presses as well.

If what some of my compatriots are telling me is true, especially in the western and southern states, finding a store with reloading equipment of any sort on the shelves at this time is like finding a needle in a haystack. Their products have all been gobbled up in preparation for the Obama/Feinstein/Biden attack on US firearms owners and hand loaders.

Good luck.

Just don't try and bring any components such as brass, bullets, powder or primers back from the USA.

Yep, equipment only.

I don't know what store stock is going to be like when I go over. Here's my short list so far

Lee Classic Cast Press
RCBS Chargemaster combo
Redding 2400 case trimmer
Hornady LNL bushings
Lee factory crimp dies

I'm still trying to decide on a tumbler and dies.
