Interchanging Trigger Mechanisms in Mosin Nagant Rifles

I have one mosin with a very nice barrel but a crappy trigger (long take-up, squishy, very heavy) and another with a crappy barrel but a very nice trigger. I was thinking about taking both apart and switching the trigger mechanism parts to see if I can put the nice trigger into the nice-barreled mosin, anyone try a trigger group transplant before

They may not perfectly interchange due to dimensional variations in the receiver & bolt. To maintain safety a mosin will always have a long trigger pull.

Ive switch triggers arround in a few of mine( i have like 5 or 6) and they all worked and passed the bump test.

After you switch the trigger and trigger spring make sure you #### the unloaded rifle and then bump the butt stock against the floor, if it doesn't fire you're good to go.

To really notice the change you'll want to move the bolt back (hammer) over as well. The Mosin trigger feel is attributed to two things, the spring/sear and the bolt hammer. There's plenty of easy things you can do to clean up a Mosin trigger yourself. YouTube shows some techniques. Here's one I've found by doing them myself that I haven't read or seen anywhere else on the net.

Use some emery cloth or Dremel with felt and polish compound to smoothen up the junction where the trigger pulls down on the spring sear. The trigger actually slides along the sear as it bends the spring down releasing the sear from the hammer.

The back side of the sear and front of the hammer (bottom of back bolt piece) is most crucial to the feel of the trigger though. Polish them up nicely and you'll be good to go.

If you want to take it a step further you can always make shims out of a pop can for the side play, use a paper clip to make a 2 stage trigger, and ad washers to reduce the 2nd stage travel.

None of these were particularly difficult mods for someone with some basic tools around.
