Interest in action shooting with .22 rifles?

About 10 years ago we ran mini-rifle competitions for a couple of seasons at the Eastern Ontario Handgun Club just east of Ottawa. This game got started by British IPSC shooters in 1997 after the government there confiscated all pistols. The action shooters wanted to keep shooting IPSC and rimfire semi-auto rifles were the best available firearms to keep the sport going.

The target fits on a letter size sheet of paper, so it is cheap to produce. The targets are typically shot at ranges from 50m down to 10m depending on the course of fire. Normally, the highest two shots in each target count. The score on the paper targets is divided by the time taken to fire all of your shots. If you miss, there is a penalty of minus 10 points. As in pistol practical shooting you are also shooting against the clock.

Given the current popularity of 'tacticool' .22 rimfire rifles, the time may be right for reviving this fun (and cheap) shooting event. The IPSC world body is currently developing standardized international rules for minirifle competition.

So, is anyone in the Ottawa area interested in giving this a try?

Ive been thinking this for quite awhile now. 22 "tactical" rifle competitions. I think with current ammo costs this would be a great way to do it. Would be fun with 2 gun two (22 pistols and rifles). Id like something like this to start in the GTA area.

IPSC mini rifle matches would rock :)

26rd bdm mags are ready to rock, hell even some two gun pistol and mini rifle matches would rock, (and they can be done indoors at most ranges too!)

The club in Lethbridge Alberta puts on 2x 3 gun matches a year and has a category for rimfire shooters and has at least 8-10 competitors show up for it each match. It is a hoot!

Count me in! I think this would be fun!

I would be interested in .22 handgun events.
At present I only have handguns: 2 single actions and 2 semis

I might -just might because I live in an apartment-house building- be tempted to get a lever action 22 rifle.

Any sort of action shooting is fun. .22 just means that it's CHEAP fun.

It would be that much nicer if there's enough classes that semis can shoot with semis and non semis can shoot with non semis. That way the fun is more accesable to everyone.

Sounds like it would be lots of fun and a blast. Have at it & yahoo...oh, and great for current .22 shooters who want to mix it up a bit. And new shooters as well who want to try some action shooting.

Personally, I probably would not play with this. I have a M4 in .223 and would prefer to stick with 3 gun'n with that rifle or even an ipsc style all centre fire rifle match would be great.. instead of multi-gun.. Feeling some recoil and hearing a big bang is most of the fun for me...

These are popular at US clubs.

I was talking with the EOHC executive on the weekend and they're game to have a mini-rifle event at the club (near Ottawa). I'll set something up in the springtime and post a notice here.
