Since selling off all my bolt rifles I've been pretty much out of the loop.

What's the availability and interest in a Canadian made 20MOA rem 700 rail?

..Dave

There are a bunch... but all pretty expensive. I think there would be room in a quality rail with the pricing of a EGW (Evolution Gun Works) rail made in Canada with out long wait times. If you throw in a Savage rail I think someone would be able to do ok.

Here's the specs;

- 2" forward extention
- 4140 Steel - Heat treated
- Parkerized

It'll be priced very competitively as well.

X2 for a savage rail

I think the extension is in place so prone shooters can mount their optics further out. Looking at my long range scopes I don't have any with the objective bell close enough to worry about the extension. If I wasn't using a long range scope I wouldn't be interested in this rail as I wouldn't care about the included 20MOA.

I'm sure it would't take much to also offer the same rail with out the 2inch extension.

NeitArms: Whats the receiver contact area on the bottom of the rail going to look like? Ferrell has a recess in the middle running front and back where 2 points would be touching the the receiver, as opposed to full contact.

what is the point of it extending so far forward?
you will need to use higher rings than with a shorter rail, since the objective bell will not clear the front.

Why would you need to use higher rings? A longer base allows you to use a longer scope, it also allows you to mount your optic farther forward for prone shooting. Forward bases are for 1000m shooting and prone shooting.

Hard to tell from the pic, but it looks like some of the heavy barrels will hit it as well. If you extend an action diameter barrel out, does it hit the front of the mount?

It will have no affect due to any size barrel... unless for some reason your barrel has a larger diameter than your action. Which I have yet to see.

You are correct on both parts.

I will post a pic of the underside this evening. It has full contact with a small lug to grab the front of the chamber cut.

thats a 20 MOA Farrel Industries rail with low Leupold QRW rings. note i even have space to clear a straight contour barrel.

with the mount extending further, i would need high rings and raise the scope at least another 1/2" - which would be ridiculously high. i can also mount my scope an inch and a half further forward if i needed to, although then you would run into eye relief issues.

if you are intending this to be a 'scout rail', then it doesnt need to be 20 MOA, since AFAIK people dont shoot 500+ yards with fixed, low-power LER scopes.

Manbearpig, I think you are misunderstanding the reason why people would want an extension to their rail. When laying on the ground in a prone position the shooter would like his/her scope to be further away then some one who is shooting from a bench. It comes down to not wanting the scope to kiss you in the nose or eye.

Ferrell bases are also on the High side (compared to others) and if you had a shorter base, and medium rings you would be able to clear maybe 1 more inch extension but not 2". Kind of a moot point though as you have made it clear that you would not be shopping for a rail with a 2" extension with you current scope/ring/base combo.

there is still plenty of room to move the scope forward on a Farrel rail, and i have about another inch to go on the actual scope tube as well - that leaves 2-2.5" of forward movement. i dont shoot much prone, but i cant imagine someone needing 3" more forward scope mounting than a bench shooter?

...and look how much higher the rings would need to be to clear the objective if the rail were extended. also keep in mind that rings dont always come in the exact height you need: so if your high rings dont quite clear it by a few fractions of an inch, you may even have to step up to extra high.

im not saying dont make it/buy it -- im just pointing out that this is one issue that you will have with making the rail longer that many people may have overlooked.

I think the ring/base combination is highly dependant on what scope you plan to mount.....

This is a Kyle Precision 20MOA. When I put it all together I realized I should have bought a rail with the foreward extension to help center the NXS.
