Interest in Prone match?

I say for simplicity we may be OK starting with 25m off hand fun match target for all 3 positions at 20yds. No slings, gloves or jackets, any sights, any gun. We will be having all the fun in September already instead of deciding on the target by January.

EB: My thinking is that we start with the 50 yard target while we still can (before people start moving indoors) and then maybe in a couple weeks we can try out the 25 yard target. http://www.sfc-ftc.ca/documents/2006_SFC_Sporting_Rifle_Rules.pdf I got a suggestion that we should just use the hunting class rules found on that page (starts on page 24)

The rules are not meant for 3p but we could make it that way ;).

I will try to get some rules established tonight and then will post them.

Target: ?? http://www.uspalma.com/Targets/PDFs/50 METER ISU Target.pdf

Distance: 20 Yards

Rifle: A rimfire rifle with any design single shot or repeater may be used.

Sights: Sights are recommended. Your choice (scope or open sights)

Equipment: No ISSF type of shooting jacket, pants, or boots may be used. A sling will nto be allowed either.

Time limit: 20 minutes per 10 shots

Maximum score: 300-30X

Course of Fire: Shoot 10 shots prone, 10 shots kneeling, and 10 shots standing at each target (10 shots per target). No supports will be allowed (no sandbags in prone, or posts in standing, etc). You may use some sort of rest to rest the gun on AFTER each shot – but not during the shot. The highest ring the bullet touches is the point(s) you get. If the shot touches the X you get a “10X”

If the shot misses the bull all – together the shot scores a “0”. No addition “make-up” shot may be

If you are unsure how to shoot in the following positions here are some guides to help you :)

Tried it out

Hi Guys,

So I got out to the range today... shot the 25m Fun match, and did a 50m Open sight target too...

I tried the 50yd small bore target as a 3P...

I shot prone and kneeling at 50m...

My rifle has peep sights... and I have to say that at 50m... the sight picture was great... the target just about filled the front aperature... but I could easily centre it...

Then I shot standing at 25m (at the same time I did the 25m fun shoot... let me tell you how heavy that rifle gets after 30 rounds!)

The only thing I would say here... is that even with my largest front aperature... the black bull was really big... made it hard to get a good sight picture... I would like it if you other guys with peeps tried this target at 25m to see if you think it's a bit big too...

The targets we use for the 25m fun shoot did really well at this distance though... although my score wouldn't support that comment!

So there's my first try at this target... I'd like to hear what you guys think when you try them... then maybe once we get some more input on this target, we can try another!

Sorry for such big pics... I tried to re-size them but it won't work!

Thanks for trying out the targets (and some great shooting to boot!)

A thought just popped into my mind that maybe we can run a 20 yard match from October - April and then a 50 yard match from May - September.

I thought this target might be a bit big for the aperature at 25 so thanks for confirming that. Maybe I can find a way to make the black stops aound the 9 ring or so, or on the other target the 6 ring or so. That would improve sight picture.

Will work on it though and maybe by next month we can get something going.

Thanks EB.

Might be better off just using that target for the 3p but in the mean time I have been working on the "issf 50m target" trying to get it so that the size of the black is suitable for 25 yards. I have got something ready but can't figure out how to get it in PDF. I will check with a friend and see if he can do it for me :)

Here is the target on photobucket. That won't work for printing though. I can also make the scoring rings stop at the 7 ring instead of the 6.

How does that look?

I own a mac

Hey,

If you e-mail me the target when it's done... I can save things as a pdf on my mac...

otherwise looks good... and I say let us score out to 6!

Thanks Eb! I just made the target in publisher and saved it as a j-peg. Before I send it to you I will make sure all the rings are centered and equal and make sure everything is perfect.

In my post I meant we could make the black stop at the 7 instead of the 6, not the scoring rings. I think that target will be good for all shooters as the 10 ring is fairly challenging but not impossible yet the target is quite big and would be harder to miss at 25 than the other target we have for 25 yard.

EB, I sent you an email with the ISSF targets. One has the black stop at the 7 ring and the other at the 6. With some testing maybe we can find out which one works better.
