I am considering trying the vintage Service Rifle shoots at CDTSA. I've read the website but not sure of the range for vintage and standard milsurp competitions. My rifle is an as issued LE No5.

What is the range for competition?
Anyone know what target is used?
Any advice, stories, and such?

They let outsiders join up, might be fun for wringing out the carbine. For the sake of my vision I hope it is 100 metres!

I think it is still happening on Range 1 this year. (Which is 100/200 meter range)
But I am also pretty sure it is only 100m. If you go to our website, that picture at the top was taken during an OLD service rifle match years ago but it should be the same targets used. It tends to change over the years though so it could be different this year.

The big thing I can say, is dont worry too much about your gear. Bring what makes you happy. Have fun. Go to the Milo pub afterwards to chat and show your support to the town.

If you have specific questions feel free to PM me. If I cant answer them I can put you in touch with the Match director.

Also interested. This is my 3rd year of membership and i have yet to do any competition. Almost did once. Had a lot of issues getting everything ready in the morning, and then found out that there was an entrance fee. Lucky it was only the shepard range. Hope to see you out there this year. And by that, i mean i hope that i make it out there this year. Haha.

I can't see 200m for the vintage class due to irons. I know some claim they can do it, but i consider myself a decent shot, and 200m would be a push for milsurp and irons.

Anyone who can shoot well on the 200 meter range with irons has my greatest respect. I have quite enough trouble hitting my point of aim on the 100m range with my LE No. 4 Mk1 sporter as it is.

I guess I shouldnt brag about ringing the gong consistently at 500 with open sights then should I? :)

We used to shoot it at 300m a couple years ago, but yes, some people with aging eyes had too many issues with it so it was reduced.
