So i have a savage 30-06 that I've been shooting quite a bit lately. I've tried lots of premium and regular bullets with so-so results. It seems to really like seirra 165gr and nosler 180gr bt's and really dislikes nosler 165gr accubonds and bt's. I have this can of "garbage powder" that's been sitting on the bench for years that I'm just to cheap to toss. It was an almost full pound of bl-c2 that I accidently dumped a couple hundred grains of IMR4895 into. Any way I was cleaning my bench the other day and realized that I had all this garbage powder and a bunch of picked up range brass for the -06 and I also had a box of hornady 110gr v-max thats been collecting dust for over 10 years and I thought what the hell, maybe I need a new coyote load. So I throw these ingredients together with 55gr of blc2/4895 and these 110gr pills and some rem primers. I forget the oal but I think it was about 3.2" (i wrote it down but its in the shop). Well I took this abortion load to the range and couldn't believe me eyes. I shot 3 groups of 3 and one group of 4 at 100 yards. All 3 3 shot groups were under 1" the smallest being .40 and the 4 shot group was .510 with 3 shots in .18". I guess I just happened to stumble upon a killer coyote load and the best part is that it shoots .75" high at a hundred. My regular hunting load is sighted in 1.5" high at 100. I didn't chrony it but an educated guess would put it around 3150 or so. I won't be mixing powders in the future to duplicate this but I'm pretty pumped I found a load to use the rest of the lb in. Thought I'd share because I'm bored tonight.
