Interesting Blog Post

My uncles were in Vietnam and one of them refused to carry a M16 and favored a folding stock M14 instead. It had nothing to do with "legends" of reliability, accuracy and/or toughness of wood and steel he says. Simply put, he favored the large .308 diameter bullet to drop a target with less shots, and if there was any "biased favoritism" it would be that the heavier bullet could travel through leaves and skim beside twigs without deflecting like a .22 caliber projectile might... whether that was true or not, be hoped so.

I have a civilian receiver M14 because of my uncle, nothing more: it is not some "god" rifle in any way, just a very interesting piece of history.

What's chicken to one guy is feathers to another. I have an FN and although an adjustable gas system and field stripping are nice the sights are poor. I like AR's as much as the next guy but ownership is more of a pain. I like the M14 best but I've never made a living carrying a rifle and I don't have to exit or shoot from a vehicle under fire so mobility is a non issue.

My favorite comment was from the guy who said he didn't have an A10 for backup.

folding stock M14?

Yeah, my uncle had an armorer make one up for him: "hacked 7-8 inches off the stock and cannibalized something up for him" (as he puts it). Certainly it is not a factory modification as some of his old photos show. He only shows them things off in an "off day" as he doesn't like talking about his tours there.

Can be shot one handed like a handgun
But gets heavy fast. Navy break helps with recoil a lot!
