Interesting Ebay find with a forgotten history

Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetary

Great story about the helmet. I noted that Gill is in Groesbeek CWC.

Went there last year to visit a relative from Regina Rifles and place flowers.

This cemetery was set up as a final resting place for the Canadians KIA in the area and many of the fellows were reburied there from battle graves and other local cemeteries.

Quite out of the way and in rolling farm country but I am sure the boys there like it that way.

Second time I visited the place; if you go there make sure you have your cab wait for you or plan a hike back towards Nijmegan like we did.

RIP

I've got a helmet marked:

"GSW | A D"
"MK 1 1941"

If you get ahold of that man's family and send them that helmet, I'll quite gladly send you this one to replace it. It's gathering dust on my shelf here.

No matter what happens here, if your ever in Stratford, look me up, you get free beer just for making that offer:cheers:

Steve, great find!!! I have several Canadian, US and German pieces, many are named and numbered to the individual. I love when our collections speak!! Thanks for sharing!
Joe:)

I should think that the helmet, like other usable kit would have been salvaged and reissued or probably sent back with quartermaster stores and eventualy returned.
