Hi folks, sorry I don't have better pictures but, milsurp lovers, especially those of us fond of Brit Empire guns, will likely appreciate this event.

Three SMLE No1MkV Trials Rifles were together today at a milsurp shooting match at the EOSC. I don't think that's a frequent occurence.

Two of these belong to one guy (not fair!) and one is mine. Only 20,000 were made, from 1922 to 1924.

Nice group photo.

While the other fella might have a pair of #1 mk V's, i wouldn't bet on his collection covering the breadth of your Enfield collection.

beautiful, so beside the sights, what other difference is there between MkIII and Mk V?

There's a band reinforcing the nose cap, and since there's no No1Mk3 rear sight base on the barrel, the handguards are different. And, for the same reason, there's no rear sight guard screwed into the forend, so there's no inletting for that rear sight guard in the forend.

From memory, that's it I think... but I may be forgetting a few minor details! (it's been a very hot day here, I woke up really early, it's getting late, dinner included some red wine and steak, all that may be having an impact on my memory at the moment). :)

If there is one in Barrhaven, that makes FOUR within a couple kms of each other. You need to borrow them all and do up a photospread to educate the rest of us Dremel Tool owning hacksaw lovers.

Hope these will do...

There are at least 2 variations.

the first version is a standard No1MkIII* action which has had the rear sight mount bracket brazed?? to the receiver.

The 2nd version apparently was manufactured with the rear sight mount integral to the receiver.

The ones with the sight "brazed" on were trials rifles, the whole idea was to convert MkIIIs to the MkV pattern but they struck troubles with alignment so the idea was scrapped along with the MkV & thats the reason why the MkV was never officially adopted & given an entry into the LoC, they just moved on to designing a new rifle & so the No1 MkVI was born which became the No4 Mk1
