Interesting, I didn't realize the War Museum in Ottawa had gun info in their site...

Speaking of the Boer War, here's a photo of my great grand-father who fought in that war:

My uncle has an even better photo of him on a camel with another soldier in front of the Sphinx in Egypt. The above photo hangs in my sitting room beside my book shelves and I try to educate my kids on their great great grandfather whenever they look at his pic

No offense, but was he an elf? That's a very small gentleman!

"...gone all metric..." Mandated by Trudeau the Elder. Otherwise nobody would have bothered with anything metric. That communist didn't like Americans nor they him and he wanted to distance us from our biggest trading partner.

And just as irksome as the CWM getting it wrong is the refusal to make corrections when pointed out. Dismissive, condesending and rude is the the order of the day when it comes to dealing with those who have a deeper knowledge on certain things such as a particular firearm or vehicle. Its like they go out of their way to turn people off.

Both Clive Law (whom you'd think they might grudgingly recognize as an expert) and I have pointed out the errors on this single web page to them, years ago. :rolleyes:

I was never even given the courtesy of a reply, not sure if Clive ever had any response from them .....

you have a canadian contract? i have one as well. the buggers at the cwm wanted mine as a donation so it could be had for free, to have the firing pin taken out, and spend an eternity stored in a damp box in a dark basement.....no thanks.

Me too .....mine is one of the cornerstones of my collection of Canadian military handguns, and neither the CWM nor any other Museum stands a snowball's chance in hell of getting it, either ....

As for their error on the magazine capacity, I suppose it may be attributable to the fact that "with one up the spout, cocked and locked" it has commonly been treated and carried as an 8-round pistol. Nevertheless, that's what you get relying on "experts" who don't actually shoot the guns they supposedly know so much about .... :jerkit:

Three things you do not want to hear from any government apparatus;

1. We are the government, and we know best.

2. We are from the government and we are here to help.

3. There are no costs associated with this program.

Very nice pistol. I'd keep it too.

I hate the metric system, we should have both official measurements, just like he did with the language.

That is a beautiful gun, I'd love to have one

Before we all get too worked up about the failings of the Canadian War Museum it might be a good time to point out that it and the Museum of Civilization are part of the same corporation and the M of C controls the budget. The CWM is very much the poor relation. To fix anything or to make even tiny changes to the exhibits takes money and the CWM has no budget for such things. Recently they changed their hours to open half an hour later on some days in order to save the cost of wages. The CWM has approximately 50 people working in a museum that, anywhere else in the world, would have a staff of about 300. Even though the staff there may appear arrogant, I suspect it's likely a reaction to criticism they have heard many times but can do nothing about for lack of money.

Meanwhile, to head the MoC tell it, Canadian history began and ended with Aboriginals living off the land before Europeans came and ruined Canadian culture.
