Everything we think we know about the Leupold D-EVO w/LCO combo
At SHOT 2015, Leupold will introduce their LCO 1X red dot along with the paradigm-shifting D-EVO inline, prismatic 6x magnifier. The two combine to make a supercharged 1-6 x 20mm Red Dot reflex optic with a CMR-W reticle. These have been appearing over the past 6 months in places as varied as Kyle Lamb VTAC videos and at the Leupold Tactical booth at AUSA in Washington, DC.

The D-EVO optical magnifier is the most interesting part of the system. It’s a very clever optic that gives the user an almost instantaneous “switch” between 1X and 6X views. With proper cheek weld, what you see is similar to a bifocal lens from your granddad’s glasses- from top to bottom: a clear 1X view up top, then a blurry thin line, then a magnified image. Without changing cheek weld, you can transition between 1X and 6X with just a slight nod of your head.

I'm thinking with a bit of training, that extra split-second to decide between the 2 can be eliminated. This could be the new direction action shooting optics will be taking, especially when dealing with mixed distance stages. What do you guys think?

P.S. My butt hurts from just looking at the $3000US ($3600 x 1.5ish dumb Canadian multiplier = over $5000+HST) price tag

Votex has a new 3 Gun model being launched at SHOT that is going to be in the $400 range....................

I am hoping to get a look at one next week.

I will certainly take a look at this one as well..........even though it is out of my price range.

But what if I want 2,3,4,5 x magnification?
I'd feel ripped off if I spent all that money and only got 2 of 6.

And trying to maintain a proper cheek weld while going as fast as you can through a stage.... ain't nobody got time for that.

Jumping to 6X this way might be faster than a variable. No searching for the target in the magnified field of view or having to dial up power with a level.

Pros and cons to every solution. An interesting optic for 3-gun.

While doing cqb stages, proper cheek-weld is not an issue, but I figured if shooting at far-away steel, chances are you'll take the extra split-second for the fundamentals.. With the magnifier having a separate reticle, it can also be zeroed to a different distance and the upper reticle can be better-zeroed for up-close work. That was my logic on this topic. I'm curious either way.

I shot this on Monday. It does work, yes like any 6x optic you need cheekweld but there's no tunnel effect as you're also looking at the red dot above. There's no head movement required from looking at 1x to 6x and vice versa.

What you do need is if you're shooting from left side of barricade you're going to have to tilt the gun. Oh and the price is going to put a lot of people off.

I also got to try this out at Shot Show, It is interesting but it does work very well and takes very little time to adjust to. MEBIUSPOWER got it 100% correct in his commects above.

They said they did not have a final price yet but the numbers I was told to expect were lower than what has been reported here. Either way it is not going to be a cheap optic and if you don't already have a red dot to use with it adding that will push the price up.

I also got to see the new Vortex 1-6 optic referenced by STORMBRINGER and it is very nice for the price which is expected to be under $500, I actually liked it better than my 1-4 Viper PST. I am sure we will see many of them showing up at 3 gun matches.

Always a good thing to have more competition in the 1-6 market. Right now it's $400 for a Sightmark, $1100 for a Leupold, or like $1500 for a Vortex.
