Interesting Tactical .22LR rifles that aren't restricted?

Funny reading about those who say 597's are useless, jam-o-matics or other crap like that... Mine never missed a beat, using cheap bulk from Win, Fed, CCI etc. You just have to loosen the guide rods a bit. Was suppose to sell it but my buyer backed and I decided to keep it, just cause it's NR. OH and stock they are at least as accurate as a SR22 for half the price ;) Only downside is the 30 rounders a slightly too "banana".

:agree:

My Marauder (now "Nomad") kit-equipped 10/22 is the coolest, most tactical- looking gun in my long gun collection! Open the door, 14 guns, this is the one that really grabs your eye. And it feels incredibly solid. Nothing cheap about it, anywhere, unlike some I've handled.

Are any retailers/dealers selling a fully assembled Marauder 10/22, ready to fire?

(Showcasing my laziness here, sorry - but it's the end product that interests me, not the process).

Nope, I'm pretty sure no one does, they just sell the kits. On the other hand, even taking your time, watching the Youtube how-to videos, never having done anything like it before, you can assemble one in under an hour. It also gives you a much better understanding of how your gun operates, and the satisfaction of having "built it yourself". If you're not comfortable with doing it yourself, and have a buddy who's a little mechanically-inclined, you're in business.

The tools required are extremely simple - a couple of allen keys, a screwdriver, and a punch to remove the original sights (which can be replaced at a later time, if you choose - the modifications made in assembly of the kit are entirely reversible). I've been building, modifying and tuning guns for 35 years, yet I was astounded at the quality of both the kit itself, and the finished product.

I got my 597 for $100 in VG+ condition and I've never had a problem with it. The plastic 30 round magazines leave a lot to be desired, yes. But once I re-glued the seams of it where it rides in the magazine well, it's worked flawlessly for me.

The only thing you have to do to a Remington 597 is back out the guide rod retaining screws and put them in at a lower torque. They're a great little rifle and to be honest, I like my 597 better than I like the 10/22.

Wicked deal!! I'm glad it's working well for you! Must not have been assembled on Friday before a holiday weekend - lol

I wasn't so lucky; my 597 was extremely unreliable and my VTR was even worse, I got rid of both. Three of my close friends use them as safe-queens. It doesn't feel good to trash other people's purchases, but I think providing good advice to would be buyers; based on real personal experience is what CGN is all about.

Cheers,

I have the Mossberg Tactical and ISSC Scar. Plus other restricted like the S&W15-22.

I'd have to say the Mossy is cheap as dirt, and it also feels/looks pretty much the same. That being said it shoots straight and has been nothing but reliable. It also eats everything I feed it. Even subsonics which was a shocker. I've never got them to cycle in any other semi.

IMO the SCAR is a POS. Overpriced, unreliable, will only shoot a few types of ammo semi reliably and on mine the finish was flaking off. Plus the usual screws were loose but it still won't cycle right after being fixed. ISSC has been MIA despite multiple emails and North Sylva sucked to deal with over it. My retailer ended up taking care of me in the end but overall I am completely unsatisfied with the product and the companies involved.

Has anyone looked at the H&K 416d .22lr. It is made by Walther and distributed by Umarex in the U.S.

I posted a thread 3 weeks ago asking if anyone knew if this could be purchased in Canada. Got a few bumps but no answers. I would be interested in this one if it is non-restricted.

That looks awesome. I don't know either, but since no one is talking about it in this thread or others like it, I'd hazard a guess it's not available in Canada at all at present.

Considering how they go on about it being a true replica, I wouldn't be surprised if the RCMP classified it restricted as an AR variant.

I think I've heard of some place selling marauders assembled but honestly CAPT. you should just build it yourself. Your gonna have to take it apart every time you wanna do a full cleaning on it, and you'll probably have to pay 50$ more or something stupid like that to have it built. spend that cash on ammo!

You really don't have to be a handyman or a "tinkerer" to build your own tactical... it is much easier than you might suspect... sky-is-the-limit for the 10/22 platform... whether you prefer AR style, Sniper style, SWAT style etc... my son and I built these, and they are a ball to shoot;

OK gents, you've convinced me...I'll build my own. :)

I am also looking for a non restricted ar style 22cal ( I have restricted class, but don't want to have to become a shooting club member just to have a 22 cal rifle, as i don't have pistols anymore)

As i read i should forget about mossberg 22 tactical (cheap build, plastic, etc..)

Is the Colt M4 Umarex restricted here?
http://www.colt22rimfire.com/index.php?page=colt-m4-carbine

Should i rather go for a SR-22R Ruger ??

I am lost in all those, a little help would be appreciated
thanks!

Is this tactical enough for you?

I just built this Marauder-kitted 10/22 over the past week or so, & fired it a yesterday for the first time. It shot absolutely perfectly. Tight groups, even with 30+ year old "El Cheapo" no-name ammo. Out of about 300 rounds, I had one FTF (crap round - no primer compound in the base - tried firing it in three different rifles, no go in any of 'em) and one FTE (weak round, almost a squib). The 25-round Marauder mag functioned flawlessly, and even my old, beat-up RamLine 25-rounder (with chipped lips) worked without a hitch.

The Tasco RedDot was easy to use, even in direct sun (the guys with scopes were having a lot of problems with glare), and functioned without any problems. The UTG bipod and folding foregrip both worked flawlessly as well.

I LOVE THIS GUN!!!
