Interesting Tactical Shotgun Training

That's Frankie McRae from Raidon Tactics. He is a really great guy who knows his stuff. Look up his website and you can read about his qualifications etc.

If you are ever in NC (near Fort Bragg), you should definitely consider dropping in to do some training with him.

I don't think I can ever stand to watch another video of this guy, let alone listen to him all day. Spit a shell into the gun when you have two working hands ?? Really ???!! URRRRRGGHH.

Hmm, good video. Going from a 18 second time to 10 seconds is very impressive. Seems like a sensible and well-taught course.

I kinda laughed when he showed me the "spit" load, so I asked him when the hell would I want to do that.

The concept of the "spit" load is for Cowboy Action type shooting (ie:where you already have your hands full with shotshells).
Take a look at Jesse "Jasmine Jessie" Abbate's reloading technique for Cowboy shotgun. Add the "spit" reload at the end and you suddenly have one more round to quickly fire.

I wasn't a fan of the technique and I don't shoot Cowboy Action. Having said that, I didn't let that get in the way of learning what I could from him (which is a LOT).

As an aside, I took a low light shooting course with Earl Green from Phase Line Green Tactical, he showed us 5 or 6 ways to hold a flashlight while shooting your pistol. There was one technique that just didn't work for me as it (or more appropriately "I") was clumsy and I would almost drop my flashlight every time I tried it. In my opinion it was useless, but that didn't make the rest of the material or the knowledge useless. I guess I am one of those "give everything a try" types.

Well you could just grab the shell out of your mouth once you use up all the shells between your fingers if you are cowboy shooting. You would never see Costa spitting ammo into his gun. Everyone who teaches firearms courses for a living seems to invent some cool technique to make their course special. Low light courses are famous for this. Still waiting for the flashlight between the butcheeks technique so no bad guys sneak up behind you. Just wait.

Wait a sec...that was technique number 4! :p

I dunno, I liked the video. Lot of things you may never need, but still, its working with your weapon, practicing with it. Spitting in a shell might not be such a great skill, but every time you draw up on a target, you improve a little bit. The before and after video he takes is clearly evidence of that.

Also, using your firearm as a weapon, not to be under estimated. Its a heavy, its long, and if struck with is going to cause some pain. Like he said, sometimes (especially here in Canada,) your less likely to be arrested if you strike the home invader with your firearm, than if you had shot him.
