It's a MonsterMan grip, a California thing where if you have drop free mags you can't have a pistol grip, bayo lug, thumbhole stock, or a bunch of other things (carry handle?), as having more then one of the evil features turns your rifle into an illegal baby-killing assault gun of death.
Now, in the youtube comments the poster mentions that his barrel had a gas port that was basically twice the spec diameter (4 times the spec area, since we deal with pi*r^2 formula). That meant that more gas was getting into the gas system, gas was hotter, so not only was it cycling hard, but excess hot gas was contributing to the warping.
So that's why the barrel needed to be replaced.
Now, he mentions in comments that he replaced a couple of gas valves before he got the barrel replaced. To me that sounds like it wasn't the valve and indeed it was the barrel that was at fault.
*shrug* Just a semi-educated guess.
