Can anyone tel me what can cause a rimfire rifle to be intermittent. It will fire 4-5 rounds out of 10, the rest are misfire .

It cycle , load and eject properly but is not consistent when its time to shoot.

Make & model would be helpful...

But my knee jerk guess is the firing pin may be peened from being repeatedly dry fired?

Cheers
Jay

Weak/damaged/broken hammer/striker springs. Excessively dirty if it’s a semi. Damaged/broken firing pin. There are lots of reasons that a .22 might be unhappy.

It is a Norinco JW21 Lever action. Since its a Winchester 9422 clone, i wonder if swapping the firing pin for a Winchester one ( if it fits) would solve the problem ?

Try a different type of ammunition; some have harder or thicker brass then others and also the thickness of the rim itself..

I found Winchester ammo bad for that.

It can be a combination of things... blunt firing pin tip, weak spring, excessive headspace, poor ammo.
