The history depicted by Americans and soviets is only partly true and covered with lies to make them look like the heroes that they want to think they are.

I was born in Europe and heard from my mother and grandmother the real stories about germans and soviets.

How many war movies are there where americans win every time?

How many war movies you see made by germans? And they managed to invade almost the whole Europe.

Wow, I don't even know where to begin on this one. :runaway:

So let's work backwards.

-"Das Boot" comes to mind. The Germans have made LOTS of WWII movies, however since they're in GERMAN they don't tend to do too well with North American audiences so you don't hear much about them.

-That's because in American war movies, depicting real battles, the Americans/Allies ACTUALLY WON. I hear they even won the war, too !

-Good for you. I have 2 grandparents who were in Berlin and Dresden in 1945. They hated some of the Soviets (Mongolians), liked others (Russians)
and loved the Americans. Others felt differently. I've also had the rare privilege of sitting down and talking with a German Kriegsmarine submariner who helped smuggle Allied merchant seamen out to Spain at a time when the standing order was to execute prisoners. No one here is claiming that the Allies were all baby kissing, freedom lovers with rainbows shooting our their *** and the Germans were baby eating freedom haters with fire shooting out of their eyes.

-History is ultimately written by the victor, but to say that the Allied powers version of history is chalked full of lies is, in my perspective, on par with Holocaust denial. The majority of historians are interested in what really happened, and not spinning the truth for political reasons.

Try to keep an open mind folks, it hurts a lot less.

A German co-worker has told me stories passed on by his mother of Allied fighters strafing her village and killing civilians in the streets. But this doesn't compare to systematically killing millions of people. Many of them small children and infants.

There is a book that examines the possibility that Hitler was actually killed earlier in the war and one of his look a likes "took over".
Apparently the author shows a long string of brilliant decisions by Hitler up to a certain date where there was an attempt on his life. After that attempt Hitler starts to act crazy and makes irrational decisions that were not consistent with his usual strategy.

I know there is the DNA evidence the Russians have. But if an impersonator was standing in for Hitler for the last 2 and a half years it is realistic that person's DNA would have been passed off as the real Hitler's DNA. Interesting hypothesis at the least.

BTW the swastika is a religious symbol used by peoples all around the northern hemisphere for more thousands of years than anyone can count.
 
Wow those Mitford women were pretty creepy...not unlike the nutbar women that fall in love with serial killers that are serving life in prison. :eek:
 
Just jumping in here guys about the whole Hitler escaping in an airplane thing.

A small plane did land and take off from nearby Hitlers bunker towards the end. It was flown by a fanatical woman pilot. This has been confirmed by eyewitness reports (russian) who were astounded to see it happen.

Hitler had given orders for two streets to be kept clear, this is how the plane was able to land so close and so late in the war. It was also a very small plane (storch?)

If you want to see a good film watch 'Downfall', it was made recently by the germans and IMO is the most accurate portrayal of the final days.
 
I feel the need to point out a few things.

1) Hugo Boss did not design SS uniforms. The reason many people believe he did is that his shop made them. It wasn't his design, Himmler just said "we like your designs, but we're getting this other guy to make them since he's got the setup to meet our demands" to the original designers.

2) Hitler was involved with occult groups, just like most people in positions of power were (and still are). This makes sense if you are capable of thinking beyond "durr hurr occult bad" nonsense that's been thrown around for decades. Occult orders are essentially the same as gentlemen's' clubs, just with more academia thrown in. What set Hitler apart from the normal crowd is that he expelled all the orders from Germany, save for two. He wanted to remove any potential source of interference with the two orders he didn't expel.

3) The swastika was perverted by the Third Reich. It was a popular symbol at the turn of the century in use as a good luck charm. It's also a Hindu/Buddhist/Jainist symbol with positive connotations. It's now not worth the hassle to wear it in the western world because the general population is largely ignorant of anything that does not pertain to their small part of existence.

4) Whining about Germany circa the 1940s being painted in a bad light by the western world...well, tough ####. They started a war and lost terribly, being grilled by the victors is part of the deal. Yes, the average German soldier was a nice kid, and most of the officers were gentlemen. The same can loosely be said about various armed forces in today's world. It doesn't stop people from painting them all with the same brush as their leaders.
