Let them try my 1944 with the St.Marie diopter sights, Gehmann 568MC rear iris with color wheels and polarizers and Gehmann 520 front iris.

The St.Marie diopter uses standard Anschütz thread and diameter. Mine is an older version the one in this link.

Oh yes. Sample target I shot earlier today at 50yds.

One other person shot a group about half that size at the same distance.
We used GP11 ammo.

K31's are one of the most accurate out of the box rigs money can buy (or lack thereof because they're so cheap).

Ammos just really hard to find. :(
I'd buy one tomorrow if that wasn't the case.
 
Yes. Matching numbers on stock, Handguard, receiver and bolt.
Original finish and bluing. Re-arsenaled at Bern (the circled 3 on the stock)

Diopter,

That's some good shooting! I wonder if anybody tried rebarelling them in a caliber a little more common? New brass is available from Midway... but @ $1 each, it sure adds up pretty fast.

If I recall correctly, some people here just buy .284 Winchester brass and re-size it, at around .50cents per round. .308 bullets are used in the 7.5x55 round, so bullet availability isn't a problem.

Re-barreling is not an easy option. Many complicated countours on the barrel shank to fit with the bolt.

Handloading is much easier than re-barreling . Besides, the 7.5x 55 is very close to the .30-284 wildcat popular in target shooting.

Here is a site of someone who uses the original barrell as a shank in order to thread a new barrel intro it.

Besides, why change a barrel that is still very accurate, just to use cheap ammo that most likely is not as accurate?

Cheap Swiss milsurp ammo may be a cruel joke, but there are lots of folks making unprimed brass, so it's not difficult to find. All you need is a press, dies, powder primers, and .30 cal bullets

Standard post/U notch, just the right size though, probably the best open irons on a milsurp.

The only problem with .284 brass is that the extractor claw on SOME K31s might not consistently grab the rebated rim for reliable extraction.
Only a problem if you shoot rapid fire matches.

As for original sights, different width and height front sight blades and rear sight notches were made:
Height denoted by "+", "-", "." and non standard width by 2.0, 2.2, 2.4 (mm).

I don't want to buy 7.5 swiss brass though. I want to buy some milsurp nickel plated bad boys like that video on Youtube.

hi folks,

sorry for my horrible english.

i´m hunter and shooter in austria/europe and we use german in my country.

the K31 is not so rare here.

it´s one of the best rifles for classic matches with militairy rifles and come with a excellent trigger.

i own two K31.

one for classic matches and one for hunting.

if you´re so lucky and can buy one, you will love the K31 in short time...

Is 7.5 Swiss brass or ammo hard to find in Austria? Or do you guys reload .284 brass as well?

You'd think that with all the K31's coming over, ammo would be brought as well. Maybe Igman will make a commercial load for it when there is more demand?
 
The Swiss Miliatry do not release, as surplus, very much ammo at all, despite the cries from the U.N. Anti weapons proliferation activists.

Most of the older ammo, which I presume exceeds the mil-spec life, gets to be consumed by the shooting clubs. Most of the "Surplus GP11" you see being sold over here is 1978-79 production, which is most likely way past what they wany to show up in their inventory. My club was using that year's production when i first joined back in 1991. Most recent I have seen is 1986 production At the Toronto and Vancouver Swiss Rifles Clubs. My Club Montreal Swiss Club, still has a fair amount of 1984 to tie us over for a while.

And no, we cannot sell it to people who are not members of our clubs. We do take in a few non-Swiss, like myself, as members.
