I acquired an M40 A1 clone not long ago, complete with Mike Rock M40 contour barrel, and a certified authentic USMC Macmillan stock...

I love it!
.... but couldn't resist sending it off to ATR , to have them install the V-bull mag conversion, as I have never been a fan of top loading.
Just got it back this morning!

As I told Rick, I really take my hat off to any man who can hump one of these all day long! :eek: Rick did all the original work on this rifle as well, before it fell into my evil clutches.



Can I still call it an M40? :)

That's very cool - I think it just adds to the versatility. Did you add the rail, rings and the oversized bolt knob later? I don't think they had these luxuries back in 'Nam ;)

I definitely plan to get into that at some point: and I'm slowly working up to it... if this rifle will shoot (Rick says it does...) then next I gotta get a reloading bench built and set up etc.... but with the new house just finishing up, there are so many other things I have to get done first! :runaway:

Plus, I still have to go to work too. :(
 
That's a sweet rig dude...I would say however it is M40a1 "inspired"...not having the clip guide, the correct base, rings or scope and now the new bottom metal and dreaded badger bolt handle...you're gonna scare the purists away. I think the gun is way more useful this way though...:sniper:

Seriously, nice rifle! Not a pure example of the rifle, but a damn nice smoke pole to zap paper with.

popcan, just have a question about the conversion. Since it was a top-loading rifle before(correct?), does modifying the stock(cutting the hole in it for the magazine) effect the strength or durablility of it or any future flex it may have?

Just wondering, stunning rifle!

Stock is already set up for a Williams steel hinged floor plate triggerguard. The VBULL mag system is actually better, solid walls and then utilizes the AI mags which are very strong.

This takes a traditional hinged floorplate rifle and moves it into the modern magazine fed era. The only thing that was needed for his triggerguard was the inletting for it to fit.

Quite frankly, I'm waiting to see if AI comes through with the promise to produce a .223 magazine. If they do, my 700 LTR .223 will be getting the VBULL system.
