Hi all,
I got this Lee Enfield from my grandfathers farmhouse which is still in the family
I'm new to CGN and enfields and have been doing a lot of reading
Here are some pics of the rifle.
Clearly it is dirty, and rusted. I was able to clean it some and get the bore shiny.
The serial numbers on bolt, barrel, rear sight, and receiver match.
I have no magazine, hopefully I can find one at the carp gun show in September.
I'm trying to decide if I should de-sporterize.

I'd leave it as it. If it was a rifle you bought by all means restore it. But since it was your grandfather's clean it up, shoot it and maybe pass it on to your kids one day. That's what I would do.

Certainly one option. I've shot a box through it and it was really fun (except my nose let me know the stock was way short...)
I have another of his guns and can likely get a few more if I ask. No one else in my family is really interested.
Gramps was a WW2 vet. A Sargent in the PPCLI. He was in Operation Husky and lost a brother who landed on D-Day but was KIA a month later.
My Grandfather was one of my top all time favourite people in this world. I wish he could have known my boys.
I was told he didn't much care for either of the guns I have. He did get a no4 lee enfield sported that was done much better. Later a 308, and a 30-06.
I'm looking into more of his history with this particular gun as it may have been in my family longer than almost any other except for a Stevens click clack .22

Desporting a #1 is getting quite costly. Your grandfather either bought it in that condition or cut it down himself. If you want to bring it back for the fun of it, go ahead. As a hobby it is worth it. The other option is to turn it into a very nice sporter. New wood and a nice clean up and this gun will last another hundred years.

Well I was able to pick up the parts needed, a black canvas sling, magazine and two chargers.
A fella from Hamilton had a bunch of enfield stuff.
Is there a preferred factory cartridge that you all like to use?
