Investment in a rifle

Rarely are they...

Guns in general are not an investment, new guns almost never... quality used guns, sourced at an excellent price (ie. underpriced), can be an "ok" investment... quality used guns purchased at proper market price will rarely be a losing proposition and you should at the very least get your money back out of them.

I think "investment" is a relative term...... I have guns that have gained value over time...... Or, guns I have used that are worth as much as the day I bought them.......

I have investments (mutual funds, stocks etc) that have lost money.......

Guns can be investments if that is what you use them for...... Who wouldn't want to have bought a couple of crates of cooeys at $25-40 a pop back in the day and let them sit?...... Or a Garand or unsporterized LE?......

What you consider an investment depends on how much you pay and how long you are willing to wait for ROI....

I see lots of guys on EE, where guy sells a $1000 rifle. Then claims it was re-barreled, has fancy rail and maybe muzzle break.
Claims this: Invested $3500, will let go for $2,200.

Invested just means spent, it has nothing to do with it being an investment.
An ideal investment gun is as near original and unused as possible, with documents and box if applicable, and more prospective buyers than prospective sellers. Any item with more people looking to buy than people looking to sell will do well over time though.

A rifle is about the riskiest "investment" a man can do/own. All it takes is a crazy ex wife or any idiot with a phone call to the RCMP and its taken till you spend thousands on lawyer fee's to prove your innocence.

I only "invest" in rifles I cant otherwise justify purchasing. As I reflect ....... it would appear I have a lot of those "investments"
