Had an interesting brain fart today. (translation: I phucked up so listen to me whine)

A target array was visible, but defined as being behind hard cover. Caution tape was used to define the area as hard cover.

My bad for not planning my game enough to avoid the trap. Still, should hard cover not obscure the target?

I earned 6 proceedurals and 6 mikes for the brain fade.

It depends on what level the match was.

For our "club night" sessions.......ALL the walls are invisible.

As in.........ok.........."so there is a wall from here to here and another from there to there".

For Level II matches I tend to strive for MORE WALLS..........some times for long distances a lenght of rope or caution tape will stand in.

Now for LEVEL III matches it has to be PERFECT.

Which of course would explain the 9 EESA IPSC guys spending today at the club furiously buidling walls and target holders!!

Let me guess that was todays match level1 at Sharon ??:D:D

Yup, I'm kicking myself. But for that brain fart, I think I'd have done well on the stage.

Stage one and two went very well for me. Stage three I was a bit too cautious, although It paid to be. Stage four I thought went very well, right up until :slap:

Next month I really need to put the patches away when I'm on deck and think the stage through.

Mist 4 targets on stage 4 that was a nasty one for a guy like me with a short memory:D:D:sniper:

I'm going to bed on a bit of a high. I just got the BGC rifle match results. I'll try not to let it go to my head. There were so many gun malfunctions amongst the AR-15 shooters that the results might tend to be a bit skewed.

It is very important to listen to the RO explaining the stages. It is very important to be able to admit that you screwed up and did not listen to instructions resulting in screwing up the stages.
As one of the people who helped set up the match, ROed the match, and competed in the match, I was still able to screw up the 2 stages involving invisible walls. For myself in future I will pay more attention to the stage instructions in future.
By the way Omen had no problems with this match and in production class was able to beat every one over all. He looks to be in great form. I hope those in production class are practicing.
We had a great turn out and thanks to Dom A. and everyone else who helped it may look like that IPSC in Sharon is going to flourish again.

Agreed. It's really nice having a fun, well attended match close to home.

One trap I think I'm falling into is not taking time before shooting the stage to plan. Following the RO and scorer patching may remind you of the numbers of targets, but doesn't always work for helping your game plan.

Next time I'm putting the patches down when I'm on deck and studying the stage.

The question you need to ask is why you were given 6 procedurals. Since you shot thru hard cover your bullets never really reached the targets, therefore you should have been given 3 failure to shoot at & 6 misses.
I witnessed another shooter engage targets from the wrong spot. When he realized his mistake he engaged them from the proper spot with 4 shots on each target and he too was given procedurals for this action.Remember hard cover means bullets don't reach the target. (we all need to read the rule book now and again)

Not sure about that rule the RO makes decision and I don't argue about it its just fun for me be safe and it is all good for me:D:D

9.1.6.1 Bullet strikes wholly within hardcover, and continues on to strike any scoring paper target or no-shoot,that shot will not count for score or penalty,as the case may be.

You need to know the rules for yoursef as a shooter.RO are not always right

Would what he did even warrant the 3 failure to shoot ats?

I mean he DID shoot at them (which took time). IMHO the failure to shoot at penalty is intended to MAKE UP FOR the time that would be saved by just ignoring a target.

He just would not have hit anything.

Personally I would have nailed him for 6 misses and that is it.

I agree with you Storm.
The shooters (there was more than one) were over penalized for the officals lack of understanding of the rules.

Would it be safe to assume that the R/O in question dutifully held one hand aloft to count off the procedurals one by one?

But hey how do you count past 5 like that??

LOL!

When assessing procedurals I will generally POINT towards the foot fault etc so my score keeper knows that I have seen it. No need to make a grand show of things.

You are better off taking some time and READING the rule book and more importantly UNDERSTANDING the rules and the WHY of them.

Some R/Os run around LOOKING for infractions. "Hunter Killer" R/Os so to speak. That is not our role.

To date I have DQ'd Two competitors as R/O and CRO. One of them was overturned on appeal to the MD. While I disagree to this date about that outcome I shook the hand of the competitor and congratulated him on the decision.

We are there to HELP run the match........not hunt the shooter.

(sorry for the rant)
