We sold two IOR scope from October 09 to present, one being a 9-36X56. and the latter is faulty. This is a nightmare and the customer is pissed. We have offered a trade on a Nightforce, but asked that the scope be fixed under warranty first. We are working on replacement, but the relationship has deteriorated to name calling and accustaions.

Hopefully we'll resolve and have other options.

Lesson: Stay away from IOR! Shooters expect and deserve better.

I thought your company stopped selling IOR a long time ago?

They seem to be very well thought of generally. Unfortunate that you would have that experience.

It's all numbers and there are too many warranty issues with IOR and the warranty turnaround is over six months.

Just checked file and we originally sent Ted Gaillards 6-24X50 back for warranty 29 April 2009. Ted's still waiting.

Regret is not dumping earlier.

We are no longer a dealer, but have a few left, being sold at cost with the undersatnding that the purchaser deal with warranty issues.

We strongly disagree with "well thought of". Any reviewer can say they are great, but have no idea of failure ratios or service. We do and it's not pretty and is an embarrassment to us. Faulty product and service = pissed customer = bad business.

Thanks for this feedback. Manufacturers who make bad product shouldn't be protected by a veneer of false praise. They are beholden to the dealers and the customers who buy their product.

This is refreshing and shows wisdom. Most have no idea what grief poor IOR quality has caused, as no matter what we do as dealers, including taking losses, there is still poorly-supported product that returns to haunt.

This is too bad ... There appears to be a very consistent story with manufactured goods out of Eastern Europe. Going back to the Lada.

With the exception of the Czech Republic ... and maybe Latvia when the first Minox subminiatures came out of Riga ...manufacturing standards are generally pretty poor (ok add "some" lines of Zeiss Jena - but that is really DDR Germany) and quality is hit or miss. With no exception I am aware of.

When the Japanese introduced JCII - and the ubiquitous stickers - they got the results they were after and Japanese camera's and optics became the defacto standard. Eastern Europe will have to do the same thing before their quality can be counted on -- The unspoken problem is that some of the traditional Western European optics company's may be sourcing some of their production in Eastern Europe as well....

AP, another exception is SK Jagd und Sport Munitions, which had quailty enough to attract Lapua as buyers and this line continue successfully as it was. Lapua moved production there for Lapua-branded .22, but with a new facility and equipment.

Of course this is not optics and agree with your post.

Peter

Since Pete decided to make our business public I think i should represent my side of the story.

I'll start off by stating that Pete has always provided good prices and service on my prior dealings with him.

"relationship has deteriorated to name calling and accustaions"

Yes the relationship deteriorated, yes I had some strong "accusations" but at no time did I call any names, so lets be fair.

"understanding that the purchaser deal with warranty issues."

This was not stated to me at the time of purchase, although I am glad your relating this to new potential customers.

Simply put I was not happy with getting a faulty scope, or the way Hirsch Precision represented them selves to me in this unique situation, and in the end I went away unhappy. I also realize that this has to do with a scope line that has caused frustration, and hardship for Pete. I believe that if the scope in question had a service centre in North America that was easier to access my dealings with Pete would have been better.

I am glad Pete has come forth and placed a warning for IOR scopes, and if I was to do it again I would spend the extra money on a Nightforce. I have had a unfortunate series of events and would caution anyone who is thinking of purchasing a new OR used IOR scope.

Hirsch Precision as a company is good overall, even if I was not able to settle my differences with Pete. I wish both well in the future.

I read that Peter will sell remaining stock at cost, provided the customer deals with the warranty. I'm pretty positive this isn't your case. It's pretty well known around here that Peter is dumping IOR.

I now think that no matter what cost you pay for an IOR scope you are taking a chance at having problems with it. And like Pete has said the warranty takes a lengthy amount of time, and you have to factor in the cost of sending the scope out side of North America, including insurance. Also understand that these scopes are not the latest generation of IOR's such as being sold by Wolverine, I have no idea if the new generation has improved quality control or not. I still would not buy an IOR, and would stick to what the Pro's are using.

Pete nailed it when he said that faulty IOR scopes that are poorly-supported are causing both dealers, and buyers problems that haunt.

Hmm In the past I bought an IOR from you because you in the past said it was a good scope!! I havent had any issues with it (yet).

IOR have good optics and nice features and we have a few that are still used, including 9-36X56, but only time and numbers make or break a product.

Styled shows a reasonable, but not entirely represenataive post hear and dealings with him failed due to a product failing and not being able to civily reconcile, which is unfortunate.

Now our feedback drops to literally 99.999% and the decimal points are correct.

I think that is a some what fair statement. I am not being entirely representative of either of our roles as we share different opinions and thats fine, but I am not dis representing anything either. I think it is fair to say that in the beginning we were both more then civil with the situation, and very understanding of each others predicaments, and in the end we were not able to see eye to eye, neither of us. And it is unfortunate, no one knows that better then I do.

As far as your reputation goes, you don't have to worry and you don't have to deduct 00.001% of your positive feed back for me. Keep her at 100% positive no complaints.

I have an IOR rifle scope as well as a pair of IOR binoculars. Both of these items were bought used here on EE. I have been very happy with both and I have been very pleased with the quality of the optics.

At the time I purchased these used items, I was aware of Peter Dobson frustration with IOR warranty/ repair issues. I have had no trouble with my IOR products but I realize that I am probably on my own if a problems occur.

The appeal of IOR is the quality of optics vs the price. In this regard they are a good buy. However if other mechanical/ quality probles arrise, the quality of optics no longer matters if you can not get it fixed. I know that Peter tried very hard to address the IOR warranty/ repair issues to the point that he ceased to represent IOR in Canada.

If IOR had repair services here in Canada, there would be no problem. Other scope manufactures have problems with their scopes as well. Speedy repairs go a long way to customer satisfaction.

I hope that IOR gets wind of this thread and realizes that customer service is an important part of future sales. I hope this will have a happy ending.

Cheers,

B

Bojanjles, 100 % with you. We still have two 10X56, a 2.5-10X42 with neat Dragunov reticle and Tactical 10X42 with side focus. I actullay like these scopes, but can't cope with IOR. Strangely, they emailed us an Easter card. I love you, too.
