Hi,

I am currently looking into getting a rifle for Ipsc and 3gun, so far i have 2 that I am looking at but would be happy for any recommendations / comments. budget is in the 2000$ range (before optics).

1- Stag arms 3g
2- Colt competition CRP-18

Thanks

I have the Stagarms one. Rifle functions as promised. The brake that comes with it overcompensates and the rifle recoils down. So I changed my brake, but everything else is stock as runs great)

Have you looked at the STI Competition and Tactical Rifles?

Tactical models now available with a 6 position adjustable stock too.

I shot the Colt at SHOT show and it is pretty awesome. Shoots very, very fast and flat, we were at the point where we were trying to find what we had to do to miss with it on a 50m C-zone steel target....I don't think we found out. Its very well built, handles well and shoots great. It would be first on my list.

Any links to reviews of these babies?

They are great rifles....for a while, a bunch of us were running them. Two drawbacks I found

1) Ideally, I prefer 18" barrels
2) Its actually hard to find out who the barrel manufacturer is. As I recall now (vaguely) I think its ER Shaw.

I made this mistake of buying the one with the railed gas block, if I were buying now, I'd buy the one with the low profile block and extra length handguard. For IPSC rifle, this may not be the right answer if you plan on shooting with iron sights.

I really don't think you're sacrificing anything in Canada with these rifles....they are very lightweight and accurate to boot. Excellent triggers as well. In fact, I'm still rocking my lower.

I immediately ordered the low profile gas block. For the price though, it's the best trigger you'll find.

For sure...The JP Springs don't get enough credit compared to AR Gold or Timney triggers, but after some use, I find mine breaks very clean at 2.75#....I can't see spending $300 on an AR gold to get only slightly better results.

My two choices came down to the Stag 3G and the Colt CRE-18. I looked briefly at the CRP-18, but it was about $400 more. The Stag 3G and the CRE-18 were the same price (in my part of the country - not sure in your location). The advantage went to the Stag 3G with the Geissele S3G trigger over the Colt match trigger.
I already had a JP Cooley brake so I stalled that on the Stag.

The 18" barrel with a full length gas tube eases the hellish recoil. :)

It is pretty clear to me that the Stag 3G is the best value in an ideal 3gun carbine. I took the lower budget route but also great value from a Windham VEX-SS.

Really? The Colt is the better rifle for three gun imo

I was under the impression that the Colt trigger was a Geisselle trigger repackaged as Colt. ? Anybody?

How so?

The trigger in the Colt CRP-18 is listed as a Geissele by Colt. The trigger in the Colt CRE-18 is only identified as a Colt match trigger.

my STI competition model is the balls. out of the box,....works like a champ,. great JP trigger, full handguard, nordic comp...shoots flat. Only thing you need is an optic or optics. I prefer the Ergo grip and replaced the A2 grip and stock with a magpul unit.
