hey all,

(just for those who might be thinking about LASIC, and who might want to know how it might affect their shooting).

I had LASIC back in Dec, from about -5.5 in both eyes.

My first attempt after the Wentworth spring match, an indoor match about 2-3 months after the surgery. The result wasn't optimistic at all - at that time I still had HUGE delays in my eyes focusing process. Ohh, I could see fine at a distance, I could see fine at arms length (sights distance), but the eyes took several seconds to change the focus from one distance to another. I don't think I saw my sights in focus for a single target that match (because I shoot at my "usual" speed, not waiting for the eyes to focus - point shooting, all the way).

I shot the EOHC outdoor match yesterday (9 months after surgery), and I'm happy to say things are quite a bit better. Still not nearly as well as they used to be (when I could just think about looking at the sights, and the focus would snap onto them). I'm a year out of practice, but so it was fool hardy to try and do anything at my usual speed, but the results were not too bad - only 3 misses (2 on a speed shoot on mini targets which I tried to shoot at full speed and eyes didn't have enough time to get the perfect clarity the targets and distance required), and 1 mini target which I tried to take on the move, from a distance)

Now, I'm hoping that the progress is still ongoing, so maybe by next outdoor season it'll be back to normal :) We'll see... I"ll shoot another outdoor match in a couple of weeks, and then an indoor one too, just to see what happens then...

I don't know how common it is for the eyes to need to re-learn how to change focus quickly, but it's not unheard of - so if you're thinking about lasic (don't know if this would also apply to PRK), just know, there might be a bit of a break in your IPSC competitions (hey, I'm looking forward to getting my, say, C-class medals in the next few level 3 matches :) ! )

D.
just hit the range, take some targets and start drills. Your eyes will get used to over the time when you shooting, your eyes will become lazy if you don't shoot.

Good Luck

I know that Fransisco of Omega Custom Guns had his eyes done.
He had a little adjusting to do in the first few months and then he was shooting better than ever.
I guess it depends on the person and how much work needs to be done to the eyes.

I'm no Doc... but my guess, Peter is right... more you practise shooting again... your eyes are excersizing the way they need to be working and thus should be get better sooner....? makes sense... we're assuming you've spoken to your Doc. re: such...
what does he say ?

Thanks, Roger! It has been a few years since I made that drive from Moncton to Dalhousie... :) You still have that boat, I see; to this day I have no idea how I managed to get 4 misses on 2 point-blank targets, shooting from about a foot away, into that hatch, hahaha :)

this does not make me want LASIC!!! i guess i'm keeping the glasses still.thanks for this report i have been wondering if this would effect my shooting.i also wonder what happens with people who have had LASIC as their eyes age?
