I've been competing with the Glock 34, 9mm in IPSC and want to boost my results by going from factory 9mm Minor to loading my own 9mm Major.

Does anyone know if the factory Glock barrel and polymer frame will hold up to these high pressure rounds? Has anyone actually used Major loads in a Glock? I'm affrad it'll blow up in my face.

Sorry, I meant the polymer frame, not the slide. And the Glock that I have is the model 34: long barrel (5 1/4 inches) and a light trigger. It's too big for the Production or Standard divisions and the trigger pull is too light...and I can't afford the high end STI 2011s that everyone else is shooting so I'm trying to make do wth what I have.

have not been in to IPSC for some time but did they not change the rules so any cal under 40 was minor -- and 40 up was automatic major
have not read a rule book in 5 years, so if wrong correct me

(to prevent a need to push the safety factor when reloading ) -- and did they also lower the major power factor was 175 now ????

Bourne, sorry, my bad about the pistol. But you'd have to load a 9mm pretty damn hot to make major. I've seen some people run a 9mm major race gun for Open division, but the case pressure is really high. It needs to be that high to run the compensator on the heavy race gun, but I think putting that ++P ammo through a GLOCK would hurt it pretty quickly (at the rate IPSC peeps shoot and practice).

I don't shoot standard, but I can't say I've seen anyone shoot 9mm Major out of one. The tolerances on the race guns is just higher.

I have a couple pieces of 10mm brass that was loaded to high pressure and shot though a Glock (not my load or gun).

I can tell you that there is a VERY impressive bulge on the case where the brass flowed into the unsupported part of the chamber. I keep it as one of my samples of what NOT to do......

The very thought of 9mm major in a glock makes my hands hurt. If its from the thought of the impeding Kaboom or just the absurd recoil I cant be sure.

you can't make major in standard with anything smaller then 40 s&w

From page 48 of the current (January 2009) IPSC Handgun rule Book:

"19. 357SIG is also an approved caliber for Major, subject to achieving the applicable minimum power factor. This change is subject to amendment, deletion or extension at the 2009 IPSC Assembly."

Aren't "A" hits all scored the same? If so, you'd be better off improving your aim... instead of hot-rodding a 9mm.

Just my 2 cents worth,
Mike

NAA.

There are a few STI shooters in Alberta that are shooting 9mm Major; they load it themselves. I think I'll just get a .40 or a .45 rather than break my Glock (and my face). Too bad for me; with the light trigger, extended mag release, mag well, long barrel, and C-More sights, it actually makes a nice, and relatively cheap, race gun.

So shoot minor :D

Just shoot all alphas and do it a little quicker than the next guy...:dancingbanana:

You'll still have fun and your gun will be in one piece ;)
