Hi,
I'm fairly new to the forum so if this has been asked previously then I appologize. I recently purchased a SIG P226 Navy. I was on the IPSC website the other day and seen that the P226 Navy was on the "not approved" list for pistols that are permitted to be used in competition. Can anyone shed some light as to why this is? Is this a temporary thing and will be it changed in the future?
Any information that can be provided would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm not sure, but I think it has to be a current production pistol.
Due to the limited issue of this model...I believe it was about 2000.
This model is no longer available at the Sigarms website or sauer-waffen site.
Therefore, I don't think it qualifies for Production.
As stated earlier, you'll have no problem using it in the other classes.

I dunno...Isnt it just a Da/SA 226 with a different finish and sites on it>? And they call it a Navy? I would think it would be legal for production.

I couldn't figure out why they would rule it out of production either.

Just get another gun or trade for a regular P226 if you want to shoot production.

The committee that approves firearms usually has to physically inspect one, and I would imagine that although it is just a variant of the P226, not having inspected one is more likely the reason.

If you want to know for sure, go to the IPSC Global Village forum and post the question there (after doing a search of course....). Vince Pinto (one of the approval committee members) is a regular, and will be able to provide insight;

From the Global Village thread on this subject:

Secondly, the broad criteria we use before we will approve a gun are:

1. It's not Single-Action-Only, it's not ported or compensated, and it's barrel length is 127mm (5") or less;
2. It's intended for broad appeal, not specifically created for Production Division;
3. It's available to any lawful purchaser, not restricted to privileged persons (e.g. factory team members);
4. It's been available for purchase for at least 12 months.
5. It's been physically handled by at least one member of the PDC.
