I'm shooting a Kimber Eclipse Target II in.45 at the moment. I really like the 1911 platform, and I would prefer to stick with major. The primary drive for .40 cal is to keep the cost of ammo down, but stay in major. .40 cal also gives me the option to shoot major or minor. I really like the fit and feel of the 1911 as I am getting more and more comfortable shooing it. I also like the fact that it is single action.

Everyone keeps saying get a Shadow -- but I might be a 1911 die hard and sticking with SA seems ideal. That and my current rig would only require a holster change, another added bonus.

Any direction as to what I should be looking at would be appreciated!

Can always look at getting a 2011 in .40 and shooting Standard. STI's and SVI's seem to dominate the Standard division.

Then you can still shoot major and enjoy a single action trigger.

Also .40 minor is not the same as 9mm minor. So, running .40 minor may not be the best option.

If you like to bring cost down - get a 9mm minor gun (you may like it!) and keep .45 for major since you already got it.

keep in mind most stages in canada are better off with minor 10+1 loadout. the only match in north america where its a significant advantage to shoot major is single stack nationals. 40 minor even the tripp 10 rd system mags are picky and you have to do a lot of tuning with different OALs and bullets to try to get it to feed reliably. if you had the money CRAFM is selling an infinity single stack in 40 with a 9mm conversion that way u can shoot minor in canada and major in the u.s ( its 7700 bucks though :( )

euxx's suggestion is much better. get a 9mm gun with a ramped barrel for a good price, get the 9mm 10rd tripp mags directly from them ( they ship to canada) and get a gunsmith to tune both triggers so they feel the same.

That is a good point about stages in Canada. Something I didn't consider.

I am not a very good shooter and not have sub .20 split. But I can reload fast.
So 45 ACP work out better to me.

92% and up "A", go with 9 mm.
85% and below "A", major will for sure give more benefit.
Between 92% and 85% "A", comes down to grip power.

unless you can do reloads in under half a second major is not competitive in Canada when you have to do a standing reload at a position were you need more then 8 rounds.

standard division is dying, dont waste your money going into that unless you plan on shooting most of your matches in the US with high cap mags.

Division Total GM M A B C D U Lady Junior Senior SuperSenior

Standard 30 1 3 13 6 2 5 1 4 3

standard every year is shrinking as ammo and the guns get more expensive. standard and open are the opposite in the US, those two divisions are the most populated since you get high cap mags. ontario provincials you can clearly see classic getting ahead of both open and standard...

I got a trojan in 40 with the plan to convert to 9mm but have not done so yet. Having shot production and revolver in minor, it's fun to shoot major and shoot the stages differently. Little bit os ammo tweaking, I'm running cobra 10mm mags with rounds oal of 1.200.

Wow I wish I had known that before I shot all those matches in Classic Major ...

p.s. No one in Canada can do a reload in under half a second.

In Manitoba, we do not see the same patent like you seen.

Max round count is 9 per position. Gun holds 9 rounds. The gun run dry, not great. But recoverable while moving to next position.
