Having been out of IPSC shooting for 20 years, I have a few questions on classification viewing the IPSC championship results. If I ONLY shoot Production, will I be classed according to Production Class only? In other words, If I am unclassified, will I be classed ONLY to those within the Production Class, as compared to results overall? If I am classed as a B shooter in Production, and decided to shoot Open class, would I have to be reclassified to shoot in the open division, or would I shoot as a B shooter in Open as well? Sorry for (probably) the dumb questions, but when I last shot, there was only open, and revolver (which barely nobody shot), with 'stock' just being introduced, yeah, it was that long ago. Thanks

Production is a division, not a class.

Generally IPSC matches recognize all divisions in the current rule book, but it is up to MD to restrict matches only to certain divisions.

Some matches can recognize and give awards to classes (D, C, B, A, M, GM) individually in each division, either using shooter's declared classes, or some kind of official classification (club level, section, region or world). How such classification is being calculated is up to the organization.

Curious about this as well.

Not sure I understand your response Euxx in relationship to what I thought OP is asking. Think OP is asking if I shoot a bunch of Classifers in Production Div and get classified as a B shooter. If I switch to Open, Classic, Std, Revolver, am I still listed as a B shooter in these divisions? Least that's what I think they're asking?

Thanks for the reply, but I think that there is a misunderstanding. I understand divisions and classifications. My question is if I am classified as a B shooter in production division, will I shoot as a B shooter in Open division as well? Is your classification restricted to division? Sorry for not being clear!

I believe your classification is only valid for the division it was calculated in. If you shoot multiple divisions, you could be differently classified for each

Depends on the section that does your classification (hint: if your avatar told us where you were, we'd better be able to respond) but 9 times out of 10 - your classification is only for the division you earned it in.
You'll very likely have to earn a new classification in the new division you chose to shoot in.

Like Sean said, it depends on who is maintaining/running classification. You'd better ask them directly. Like email your section/club/etc.

Ontario has now gone more with the USPSA system and as long as you are classified in two or more divisions, regardless of the class it will not allow you to be lower than one spot from your highest class. For example we have a shooter who is an M in open and classed A in classic even though he is B so far in classic if you used his classic results. It's still being ironed out so some people haven't been changed yet. This doesn't happen if you don't already have some kind of classification in another division.

I feel that classification is an archaic and degrading system, and should be abolished.
What are we, show ponies? being graded on how shiny our hair is?
Its 2016 people, we should be striving for equality in order to advance society.

Says the guy who shot my classifier match at LTV :)

In BC our classification is by division. So if you're a B Production shooter and buy an Open gun, you're "unclassified" until you've shot 2 matches.

Not entirely true. In BC, we maintain separate classifications for each division, so it's possible to be a C in Open, a B in Production and a D in Standard. This shooter would be Unclassified in Classic division if they had not shot 2 matches (the number needed for initial classification) but for awards purposes, they would be 1 less than their highest classification (in this case, C) so that they are not competing with new, unclassified shooters for awards.

You've hit the nail right on the head. I think there should be no scoring either. That way nobody will have their feelings hurt.
Everyone should get a participation ribbon at every "fun shoot" so we can all feel better about ourselves.

Now that the problem with the world today. All these 11th place trophy's

Its Amazing my parents survived without being prescribed meds for ptsd, depression, ocd (rather cdo...) socially inept therapy.
How'd we ever make it out of the cold war without just nuking them first?

disappoint in your D class, should strive you to shoot better and get a damn C!

If your hair isn't shiny enough you could always shoot with your shirt off. Dear Leader approved!
