IPSC ear protection?

Not IPSC specific, but I'm looking to get new ear pro. I thought about getting the Sordins but the NRR 18 rating seems a bit low and I don't need an electronic muffs. What do you gents suggest for a passive muff with a high rating? A plus would be if the muffs were slim so that it's easier to get a cheek weld. Cheers!

The low rating on the Sordins is just because of the way they rate them(MSA) There is more info out there if you search but the long story short is there GTG and protect just as good as the others, and yes to echo the others, the gel cups are worth getting x10.

The over-the-head type are fine with a ballcap - provided that the ballcap doesn't have any button on the top - but they just don't work with a real hat. Waterproof muffs don't do you much good when the water is running off your cap and down your neck. On any outdoor range, raingear is a must. I don't know what I was thinking.
If I was buying Sordins again, I'd choose the neckband version (Supreme Pro-X, gel-cupped).

Damn that was some expensive advice LOL but you only live once right.... I just ordered the Supreme Pro-X with gel cups from SRS
I do wear ball caps most of the time, and most of them do have a button on top, so a behind the head strap should be more comfortable for me

Shopping cart said I'll get them on May 3rd, so I'll see if they are worth the big bucks when they come in

Thanks for all the suggestions and info guys......Now I think I am going to start another thread for eye protection suggestions

-I would really like to try out the electronic in the ear plugs ( Peltor TEP-100 or Sport Ears Ghost Strike) but at the cost I'm skeptical that they would last or provide all day comfort.

I wear the TEP-100's for 3-4 hours at IPSC and don't have any issue with comfort. They sit inside the ear, so if that's an issue for you then it's probably not a good choice. I got the high db skull screws with them, and have no issue with standing beside a guy with a .460.

Just to update if anyone reads this and is wondering if I believe I made the right choice with the MSA Sordin Pro-X, again I went with the behind the head style and the gel inserts

And I love them, I just did my black badge over the weekend with them, and I wore them basically 8 hours a day 2 days in a row. And they did not hurt my ears like my old muffs did....Way more comfortable!

I did notice that when I practiced at my indoor range they are louder then my old muffs because of the lower rating. Not too bad unless someone was right in the stall beside me with a large caliber or SBR rifle...Outside with pistols they are perfect!

And SRS was really good to deal with, there was a slight mix up upon order. Showed in stock, but they called me the day after I ordered to let me know that when they went to pull from stock they were actually out of stock. So they asked if a few days was ok to wait to bring them in, or if Id rather choose anther pair or get a refund. I had more then enough time to wait so I did and again Im very happy I did

2 thumbs up from me! For both MSA pro-X and SRS
