I recently got my rpal in the mail (Monday) and started a transfer of my first pistol on Tuesday.

I picked up an sp-01 shadow with a blade tech holster.

I am planning to try and get into IPSC shooting over the summer so I need some more equipment. I would like to try on the belt and mag holders before I buy. Any suggestions on a store in the Ottawa area that carries this kind of equipment?

Thanks
Jon

As you just got your RPAL, it would be advisable to spend your time at the range learnng to shoot a pistol. Get a least 1000 rounds through it before trying the BB course.

On the plus side, I have 3500 rnds of 9mm. Stocking up for getting a pistol, and I already have a JR carbine in 9mm. I have signed up for my range safety course in late March. The earliest, closest course to me in late June. Im sure I can get 1000rnds through it by then.

All that said, I can practice my reloads at home until I take the course.

Good luck on your BB

I agree that having range time is a good idea getting to know yur pistol and all....
But on another note sometimes I have wondered if taking a Course and learning the proper way and not continuing with bad habits might be better???
I guess it depends on the individual.

Stittsville might have Equipment there seeing as they are a newly affiliated club with IPSC. They have a very nice Range out there as well. The IPSC guys are nice and friendly. Had a great time shooting there last summer. Looking forward to more shoots this year.

We have 1 spot left on the BB Course in Eganville if interested.

What does just getting his RPAL mean?? I don't have a PAL of anykind and been shooting IPSC for a few years now. I have lots of shooting in with the restricted and non-restricted... Maybe he was shooting with buddies under their supervision. Good Luck Jon

I thought you needed to have your own gun and have a restricted license to compete in IPSC ??

I am very hands on and mechanically inclined. Once my shadow shows up it will be stripped, cleaned and reassembled several times before heading to the range.

I am not concerned about being comfortable with the pistol come time for the BB. I have been out with friends and shot a shadow and had no problem hitting the 8x11 target 10/10. That said I would rather be comfortable with the mags and pouches before the course.

Ive had my PAL just over a year, and received my RPAL on monday.

Kuddly- I thought about taking the course in Eganville, but its a little over 2 hours away so requires a hotel stay. The EOSC is running a course in June, but they have not emailed me back in a few days. Maybe time for a call.

Learning is always good, but the BB course isn't designed to teach you to shoot. It would be like taking an advanced race course at Mossport when you don't know how to drive.

jon1985 is on he right track if he intends to use some of that ammo to learn how to shoot that gun. Once he knows how to "drive", the BB course can teach him how to "race".

Nope.. Hubby has the licence and the firearms. As long as a person who is not licenced is under direct supervision they can shoot. Shooting IPSC you are under the supervision of a Range Officer and the owner of the firearms is on the range. I guess that is all matters.

Jon the RA has an IPSC Match coming up on March 19 & 20 if you can make it there can check out some of the guys equipment.

Im 25 mins from my range and its open 7 days a week. As soon as I have my range safety course I will be out on the weekends. Once it starts getting light in the evening I will be out a few evenings a week. I will get plenty of lead down range by the time late June comes along.

I will try and get out to the match and watch.

So you can compete for scores and not have an RPAL ?? and it's sanctioned

Go ahead, john1985,
IPSC teaches you how to handle a pistol safely first, then accuracy and speed! Safe is always the most important thing, remember that you are going to maneuver with a loaded pistol in IPSC match!
Our couch told us to crawl in our first several matches to finish successfully, and then try to walk, and run eventually.
Good luck and have fun!

Yup... I have shot Production and Classic.. I have shot local matches, Provincials and Nationals in Ontario and Quebec. Have shot the Summer Slam the last few years and the Nationals in New Brunswick. I am also an IPSC RO.

I have also won a beautiful little pistol at Summer Slam one year. Had to have it put in Hubbys name but all is good.

You do not have to shoot like a pro to take IPSC course.
But before you go to IPSC course, you had better to be able to control your trigger finger and the muzzle!

Not aware of any place in Ottawa that sells any "IPSC specific" equipment. I shoot with "tactical/duty" gear for standard (until you get to open, this is more than sufficient). For that you have 3 choices, but only 2 where you can walk in and try on.

Millbrook in Stittsville and Fundy Tactical (Carling Ave) carry belts and mag pouches. Rampart also sells them, and will let you try on your order after purchase at their facility in the East end. If you want full custom, there is Sheepdog tactical, they can build you anything you want, however they are online only.

As KuddlyGemini mentioned, Stittsville Proshop may be able to help, good bunch out there.

If Henri is teaching the Eganvile BB this year, jump on that last spot, you won't regret it.
