IPSC equipment in Ottawa

Yup... I have shot Production and Classic.. I have shot local matches, Provincials and Nationals in Ontario and Quebec. Have shot the Summer Slam the last few years and the Nationals in New Brunswick. I am also an IPSC RO.

I have also won a beautiful little pistol at Summer Slam one year. Had to have it put in Hubbys name but all is good.
As an RO what do you do if you have to run someone who also doesn't have an RPAL?

Black Badge course isn't for new shooters, it is stipulated an individual should have experience before taking the course. This is not a guaranteed to pass course. People often fail to pass through.
Having said that, the BB couse is great, instructors are some of the best in the field.

Im 25 mins from my range and its open 7 days a week. As soon as I have my range safety course I will be out on the weekends. Once it starts getting light in the evening I will be out a few evenings a week. I will get plenty of lead down range by the time late June comes along.

I will try and get out to the match and watch.

When the light gets better in evenings, Practice nights Wednesday at SFFGC

The said RO is under the supervision of the MD or the CRO or the Range Master....

Although I will say, I have done the PAL and RPAL Course a few years ago, just haven't had it sent in yet.

When ROing we generally have 2 people on the line with the shooter. One with the timer and one observing as well, then taking down scores.

Yes but only the RO is within arms length of the shooter and is the one responsible for the gun.
Scorekeepers are looking for scoring issues, foot faults, FTE etc etc. CRO and MD well drinking coffee?

Kuddly- I thought about taking the course in Eganville, but its a little over 2 hours away so requires a hotel stay. The EOSC is running a course in June, but they have not emailed me back in a few days. Maybe time for a call.

If you're in Carlton Place, EOSC is about 1hr 10 mins away, closer than EOSC.

I shoot at EOSC, Eganville and SFFGC.

No hotel required.

I am very hands on and mechanically inclined. Once my shadow shows up it will be stripped, cleaned and reassembled several times before heading to the range.

I am not concerned about being comfortable with the pistol come time for the BB. I have been out with friends and shot a shadow and had no problem hitting the 8x11 target 10/10. That said I would rather be comfortable with the mags and pouches before the course.

Ive had my PAL just over a year, and received my RPAL on monday.

Hey jon1985, I'm a member at EOSC and plan to try IDPA this year....I plan to sign up to the NSOC in June. But didn't know they were doing a Black Badge course as well.

Congrats on getting your RPAL - you're in for some fun! IPSC is a lot of fun!

As far as having stuff in stock in Ottawa, Millbrook generally has a good inventory, they recently started carrying IMI who make some decent poly mag holders. I've found getting stuff is often easier by ordering online, as it usually comes down to when I want it nobody has stock locally. SFRC is not that far from you, they often have good stuff, and it's just a fun drive down 15.

Since you already have a holster, you're basically gonna need mag holders, some extra mags and possibly a 1 or 2 piece belt, oh and make sure you get an uplula loader too. For mag holders, it's either polymer (blade tech, IMI etc), soft (Tyr) or magnetic (Ghost, CR etc.). For a belt, the 2 piece ones are nice, an inner runs thru the pant belt loops, the outer piece has all your junk on it and velcros to the inner. A stiff 1 piece also works well, tho you have to put everything on and take it off every time you use it.

For mags, 6 is about the minimum for ipsc, tho I carry 10 to any match and practice. Even tho a stage may only have say 14 targets for 28 rounds, you may do 3 mag changes depending on the stage layout. One of the stages as the recent RA match had a couple of guys doing 4 mag changes.

If you're interested, we run an IPSC / Practial Shooting club at Stittsville, we practice Sundays all year round and Wednesdays April to Oct. We have a ton of fun with pistol and rifle (and the occasional shotgun). PM me if you want any more info.

I recently got my rpal in the mail (Monday) and started a transfer of my first pistol on Tuesday.

I picked up an sp-01 shadow with a blade tech holster.

I am planning to try and get into IPSC shooting over the summer so I need some more equipment. I would like to try on the belt and mag holders before I buy. Any suggestions on a store in the Ottawa area that carries this kind of equipment?

Thanks
Jon
I have the same gun. Holster action sports on Riverside and mag stuff at Millbrook tactical. That being said I wore that stuff to the IPSC thing at the RA centre and they went all ballistic on me.
