IPSC equipment... What do I need?

So, Spring is coming, would be great to start shooting outdoor again.

Want to try IPSC, not sure where to start... I know I have to get a "black Badge", so I will keep an open eye for the next event in southern Ontario.

But other than the logistics. what do I need beside my Beretta 92fs, the 2 mags that came with it and lots of ammo?

Holster?more mags?mag holders?

can use jacketed ammo?

Keep your eye on this section of the website http://www.ipsc-ont.org/bbcourse.htm

You should also use the online form to put your name into IPSC ONtario. That usually helps speed up the process...

All you'll need is a Holster, belt and a few more mags (and eye and ear protection)

You have alot of choices for holsters, just depends on how much you want to spend. The Sickinger or CR SPeed are good choices for your gun but you can also look at less expensive Holsters like the BladeTech (the same companies also make mag pouches)

I would recommend at least 5 mags...with the 32 round field courses...you nedd at least 4 to complete the course...and the more mags you have, the less reloading you have to do between stages...(7 or 8 is ideal)

Jacketed ammo is fine (less smokey than lead) There are a few indoor clubs that don't allow FMJ's so check with your local club...but it's not common...

You can also check out any of the clubs in your area http://www.ipsc-ont.org/clubs.htm Most of them have reglar practice sessions in addition to matches...and you'll get a chance to see it first hand. The shooters are all friendly and you won't have any problems getting further info/advice/opinions etc...

Before you even buy all of that, you have to assess your situation.
Do you wan to shoot production / or Standard or Open ?
If you want to start as cheap as possible, than stick to you Berreta & get the stuff you need for it.
If cost is flexible for you, than hangout & chat with some of the ipsc guys at your local club & see what it's about.
There are many angles to go at this & Maybe you'd like to spend the cash on a STI or other standard or open gun. you may prefer a .40 or if a real man,
a .45 :). there are many choices.
The grange has ipsc on every Wed. if you wanted to drop in and check it out.
 
which club u part of?

try coming out to the next match and checkout the different guns and gear. Freedom Ventures will have most of the IPSC gear.

I go to Galt to pick up my ammo from Frank (the shorter & older Frank)
I'll be out there in a week or two. If you're there, we can chat .
I'll pm you, when I'm going.
 
I know Frank, bought ammo from him lat year. Let me know when you decide to go and I will meet you up there. I go every Sunday and sometimes monday too.

I just got the mags.. will look for a holster in the coming week.
I also registered with IPSC-Ont. and sent a PM to Ron Malloy (azone)
