Hi guys,
I finished my BB course and I am about to sign up for my first qualifying match in may.
I have CZ SP-10 Shadow (9mm luger) and I am wondering what division do you recommend for a novice shooter with the gun I own? I am considering PRODUCTION, but not sure are there any advantages/disadvantages of maybe selecting STANDARD division?
Thank you

shoot any class you want, BUT shoot slowly, watch your finger and do not go faster then your mind can keep up.... what i am saying is DO NOT GET DQ'ED.

don't stress out about the little stuff.

Yup, that's my plan, speed will come with practice. For now I focus on safety rules and where I want to move :)
Thanks

You are shooting production with that gun. Get A's and make sure you keep your finger off the trigger except for when you are aiming at a target to shoot it.

its against the rules of ipsc to go or even to be told to go slow.

LOL Speed accuracy and power! Well said, but better be slower and not DSQ, art least until I get all the muscle memory from exercises and competing on stages. I guess that speed will come with practice, for now I focus to execute routines correctly.

Everyone in production shoots minor so you are on a even footing points wise. If you shoot standard with it you are giving up points for your C and D hits. Plus standard guns shot faster since they can be worked on. I am sure someone willchim in here and say if you shoot all A's you don't have to worry about it. While a true statement it will slow you down. Just look at all of the top shooters and they shot major usually with a 40. That says something I think.

actually it is not because IPSC is a "freestyle" sport that allows each competitor to solve the problems of shooting the stage themselves.... remember the word freestyle, and as a recent graduate of the black badge program, better to go slow and finish the match without a DQ then to get a dq and lose his black badge status, or become frustrated with the sport.

Go slow, shoot accurately, exaggerate finger off the trigger while moving and loading. When you start to feel more comfortable and you are getting a lot of alphas, pick up the moving speed. If you have to cover distance, run it. Watch your 90's and your finger.

Have fun, we play this for a reason.

Have some fun. Shoot your first match in open division, place your gear wherever you want and when people start to hassle you about it say only "It's legal in my division" and then watch their heads pop.
:D

This is the key for novices, keep that finger visibly out of the trigger guard during movement and reloading:

I am not worried about my finger, but I am usually worried that I am going to forget shooting positions and I need to practice more to release hammer manually after chambering first round and not after inserting second mag.
Also, as much as people trying to say that speed means a lot in IPSC, I consider this sport and a hobby, and I prefer do it safe than fast (in speed people forget basic safety rules). I know that my results at the beginning wont be the greatest, but that's where practice come in place. Speed and muscle memory will kick in in time. I really do not expect great results at the beginning, just being safe and having fun!

+1 on PapaHotel's post, be safe and have fun and survive the match and do not forget to send in your card:)

Just shoot production. Go as fast as your front sight will allow, get your hits and keep it smooth.
I'd recommend shooting the Brooks May 5th match as a dry run to qualifiers 10 & 11 the next weekend if you can.
If you want to squad together, I'd be happy to help out a noob.

I will be in Brooks for their club match (I already applied for it and the good news is that this match actually qualify as a fist match for my BB). I will apply for Lethbridge/Brooks on 10&11th as soon as I get my IPSCAlberta account ready.
Thank you for the invite, I'll be more than happy to team up.

remember to argue every score, every call, every stage setup and every perceived injustice of the rule book. then come here and tell us about it.

kidding, leave that to others, go shoot, have fun and be safe. take lots of video so that in a couple years you can look back and laugh at yourself.
