Hi folks,

I started off with the standard bladetech double magazine pouches and a fobus holster, but I dealt that away in a trade. I now have nothing and am looking to purchase some gear to get me started for my first shoot of many. I'm in the camp of buy-once-cry-once, and have never regretted my purchases in hindsight. I'm certainly not saying money is not an issue, I'm hoping to get your experienced opinion on whether these items are "worth it".

BELT
I am primarily looking at the Ernie Hill/ Guga Ribas belt, due to its high stiffness.

HOLSTER
Ghost Stinger Holster (RH) Glock (btw I will be shooting production with a Glock 17)
(I am open to suggestions, but just want to stay away from the race holsters for now as its more capital than I want to put down, and at my level, it's not going to make me faster :p)

MAGAZINE POUCHES
When doing my BB course, I saw a selection of most of the pouched you can buy. I've listed them in order of preference:
1) Guga Ribas Speed Option (~$75)
2) CR Speed (~$40)
3) Ghost 360 (~$30)
4) DAA Race Master Aluminum (~$75)

I'm not necessarily looking for speed here, but more comfort and ease of draw. I chose the EH pouch as my number one due to the low index cut, tensioning, and the adjustability of the pouch. I have never used it, so I'm wondering if the adjustability (not only cant, but angle away form the body) is actually beneficial, or more of gimmick. The CR speed also has a larger index cut and tensioning, which is why its second for me. Ghost has an index cut but no tensioning, therefore 3rd, and DAA has tensioning.

Sorry for the long post, but I hope you can shed some light on the above. Any help is much appreciated!
 
I just bought a complete safariland rig, very happy with the purchase, outer belt is very rigid, roller mag pouches work very smooth and gls holster has enough retention for piece of mind yet makes for a quick and clean draw and the drop offset adapter was well within the 50mm rule.
 
I use the Ghost 360 pouches and one of them with the double magnets. Been using them for over a year and am very happy with them. You can get them from either Double Tap or direct from Ghost (they are very good about wording the customs forms so you don't pay duty).
 
I've been using the ghost360 for about a dozen matches and have had no issues. Tension is not adjustable but it hasn't been an issue. The price is right and it also lets me carry either double-stack or single stack mags without having to change anything.
 
I use the Ghost Stinger and Ghost 360 mag pouches with a DoubleTap belt with my Glock - I found the Ernie Hill belt I had was too thin for the Ghost holsters to attach properly (without shortening the screws). I'm happy with this rig.

I also have the Super Ghost Ultimate holster for my 1911 and use it with a DoubleTap belt as well, with Ghost single stack mag pouches. Nice rig, but for production you are better off with the Stinger I think.
 
It worth to mention again that open/race holsters are not compliant for USPSA production and single stack divisuons, if you ever go to matches in US or local USPSA matches. Besides, kydex holster is not any slower than the race one for most practical purposes at ipsc matches.

These types of holsters (and drop holsters) are also illegal for IDPA.

Just a heads up if you're considering shooting there.
 
My Single Stack/Classic rig is an Ernie Hill belt and mag pouches with a Ghost Hybrid with the USPSA belt attachment for Single Stack (has to ride a lot higher)
The pouches are ideal since you can adjust in any direction (rake and angle and even run bullets out if you want, though I find the mag sticks out way too far for my liking) and with the open front you index on the magazine better.

Both of these should allow the button of the pistol to be above the belt to align with ipsc rules, correct?

That one looks good. You're right about the above the belt part. I'm just speaking from personal experience.
I had a drop holster with an offset which made the butt of the gun too far from my body. (about the width of your thumb)

I guess not all drop holsters have offsets.
 
Thanks everyone for your feedback. I did some more research based in your suggestions and decided to go with a double tap belt, ghost 360 pouches, and a ghost stinger holster all from double tap sports! Josko was also a pleasure to deal with!
