Hey everyone,

I'm considering doing the Black Badge course to potentially try competing in IPSC.

I'll be using my Glock, but after a weekend course, I've realized I need a better grip on it, and am seriously considering stippling the frame.

If I do stipple the frame, does this change anything in regards to IPSC divisions or anything?

Just going to be something simple like this:

If you stipple the frame you cannot compete in production division.

You can still shoot in standard.

I would shoot the Black badge first and then consider if you really need to stiple the frame. Keep a towel to dry your hands, or ask your BB instructor about some of the dri-hand products out there.

just put grip tape on it. Look up the rules for where you're allowed to put it first though. Stippling it will, among other things, ruin it's resale value as well.

Sosa answered the IPSC division question. It's your Glock and you can do what you want, but I'd seriously consider any other option before making such a permanent changed. Grip tape or even a slip on rubber over-grip are much better options, IMHO.

I'm not a huge fan of gloves for IPSC but you might be able to get away with it on a Glock. Gloves and light triggers do not mix well so any tuned 1911/2011 or even the lighter triggers on the production CZ Shadows can be touchy. As well you lose dexterity with operating slide locks, loading mags, patching targets and pretty much lose on everything except adding some grip. It's a great idea to learn to use gloves if you are going to be operating a firearm in an environment that requires you to wear gloves because it is more difficult, but in IPSC, where there is no requirement, I would skip the gloves and add grip tape to the side panels of the Glock and see how that works for you.

You can get the laser pre-cut grip tapes that work great. I just went to a skateboard place and told them I wanted to re-deck a board. They sold me 3 feet of the aggressive stuff for $10. It's on all my pistols now :)

... Grip tape or even a slip on rubber over-grip are much better options, IMHO.

Note that the slip on grip sleeve is not allowed in Production Division. Grip tape/skateboard tape is cheap and easy to apply/remove. All my IPSC pistols are covered in the stuff!

Thanks for the help guys. I really would like to stipple it but I don't want to be put into a different division because of it. Stupid rule if you ask me!

Anyways, I'm going to try the tape for now!

Cheers

Yes, as long as you apply it accordingly to the rulebook.

Thanks! I was considering applying the xtreme grip tape to my M&P as pictured

that would be ok right? (sorry for partially hijacking thread)

Just shoot it with what you have. Make decisions after with some knowledge. All those grip kits are over priced. Get a chunk of floor grip or skateboard tape if it really turns you on. Don't spend money on junk.
