IPSC gun

CZ SP-01 Shadow + Accessories (Blade tech holster, mag carriers, belt, extra magazines) should run at or over $1200.00.

Shoot Production to start and shift into Standard once you have developed some level of experience.

Nothing wrong with just staying in Production either. There's some very good competition in that division.

I didn't mean to suggest that Production shooters were the scrubs... I shoot Production!

When I started shooting IPSC last year, I intended to shoot a .45 1911 in Standard. After using my .45 1911 in my BB course and watching some guys perform with their tricked out 1911 STIs in .40 S&W, I realized that it was going to be a tough go.

I switched to using a Glock in Production and that was a much better way to go (I already had a Glock).

If I had to do it all over again (with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight), I would go with a CZ SP-01 Shadow.

A CZ and gear is a low (relatively speaking) dollar investment to have one of the guns the top guys in IPSC (Production) are shooting. If you really enjoy the experience and want to make a larger investment, THEN go to Standard or Open.

I almost felt down of my chair when I first read that but you made it up pretty quickly so no offense there. I understand your point now.

For a little bit more than 1200$(may be more arround 1500$), you can get a CZ Shadow with the aluminium grips, 4 extra mags(wich means 6 mags in total), some spare parts, Blade Tech DOH holster, CR speed belt and 5 CR Speed versa pouches. That's all you need to perform and have fun in production. This setup will last you for ever. That's what I use and it served me well at the Nationals this year.

JP.

Exactly.

For $1200ish you can get a complete Production rig and you will not be limited by your gear.

Where will $1200 get you in Standard? Not to the same level. A single stack .45 just isn't the same as a double-stack STI .40 S&W.

This may seem like IPSC subtlety, but I wish someone had explained it to me. I may have may different choices...

The other factor to consider is ammo and cost. The IPSC game is not expensive just to start... The ongoing ammo costs are high. .45 ACP is more expensive than 9mm (factory, re-manufactured, handloads, whatever). You can assemble a 9mm cartridge for the cost of a .45 projectile.
