IPSC Guns Suggestions.

I did my black badge years ago but I want to actually re-do my black badge as I don't feel comfortable with handguns. Any who I am looking to get a descent handgun.
When I started I learned on a Para Ord 16-40 Ltd it was a great gun I loved it I did sell it. But what I heard is that Para Ord is not so good any more, even if they are around any more. Any who I would be shooting 40 for cost reasons and I just like the round.
I am a fan of Single Action and have no interest in DA. Any who I've been reading a lot about rules. I am looking for Classic or Standard class.
What gun would you recommend if you were getting back to the sport? Budget is around 2k.
STI, Tanfoglio, Sig etc..
 
Tanfoglio .40 looks very good. I've read the reviews on these guns and they are outstanding. STI is outstanding as well.
I have sent out an email to IPSC guys in my area. I am not super competitive I just want to really have fun.
I am on the island and the local range is very good.
 
If you're a single action fan, then you gotta go with 1911 in classic division. is 2k budget for gun only or to include extra mags and belt system ?
STI has many options to choose from. Check out their website. The Trojan is one goon option for approx. $1150 and is pretty much ipsc ready with only few minor fine tuning you may choose to do to the gun. Also STI Sentry is very good option at $1600. It's forged steel gun 1911, as the Trojan I believe is Cast steel or something.. Forged is suppose to be the better stronger way. And couple other options.
Of course in 1911's, there's Kimber, Springfield, and many other brands to choose from.. go and search many company web sites for their options.
Though there are some restrictions on models, so double check if model you choose, is an approved gun. For example, I don't think the tactical rail is permitted in classic division, full dust cover frames are not allowed. Need to pretty much be like original 1911 design. Good thing about classic division is that you can pretty much modify many internal and external parts (unlike production division).
 
S&W M625, of the 10 years that I shot IPSC, the best year was the one where I only shot a revolver. You know from the get go that your not going home with the "Cadillac", so it is more a like the game that it really is.

sure, just point out where he can buy one of those easily lol.

STI something in classic is your best bet in that budget. personally I love shooting classic

Trouble is, no one else shoots revolver (and IPSC is not very 'revolver friendly') so there's no one else to compete/compare yourself with.

You won't go wrong with STI for either Classic or Standard. In fact for Standard, there's little else I'd look at. For Classic, my preference is STI, but there are lots of good options, just make it a 5" non-railed 40 or 45 1911 (my preference is 40, but that's a different conversation). Regardless of which 1911 you get, you'll probably need a decent trigger job done afterwards (unless you get lucky in buying used). Then it's just a matter of tweaking it after the fact with the kind of front sight and magwell you like.

I wouldn't throw Para to the side just yet, Since the Freedom Group Took over Para 1 or 2 years ago they relaunched the line-up with some pistols with good components.I'm giving the new Para-USA stuff a try, I bought a new Para Pro Comp in .40 for single stack/classic division. Should be here this week.

I remember they went down hill after Diemco got bought by Colt, paras were actually made in the Diemco factory as I remember. I had a single tone 16-40 It was a fantastic gun the only mod I did is changed the bushing. I wasn't a heavy shooter but the gun never had a malfunction.

Also it pretty well much everyone is a STI fan here. :D Any one shoot Tanfoglio's in the Standard Class?

Also the 2k is just for the gun it self. I have a bit of the holster stuff still, I just need to dig it out. (1911)
