Hi guys,

I recently restored an old 1911 that was built for IPSC with an old frame. It shoots extremely well and I would like to do a couple of matches with it just for the fun. I already shoot in the open division so I don't even need to change category. I use a DAA holster for my current pistol (CZ Czechmate) but the 1911 insert doesn't work for my 1911 frame. I was thinking on getting a CR Speed (or at least try it at my shooting range because they have some in stock). Does any of you guys have any experience with those kind of 1911 frame and holster?

Here is a picture of the pistol

Double Alpha Academy, Flex Holster. easily adjustable to be exactly how you want it to be and continues the legacy of being the best race holster on the planet, it's a step up from your current DAA

Thank you, I'll check it out for sure. I used the CR speed holster in the past and I didn't like it so I'll upgrade for the DAA flex if it can fit all my pistols!

The extra length from the comp, the optic, and the extra-chunky frame are going to keep you out of a standard 1911 holster (and bump you out of Classic into Open as you note).

if you download the chart from their website you can see if the holster will work with your gun. There are two adapter designs, A and B.

I've been watching this thread for a few days trying to think of a solution.

As the CR Speed distributor, I'd love to recommend either a WSMII or an Ultra for that gun but I honestly don't think either would work.
I'd also be surprised if a DAA 1911 /2011 holster worked.

That added square weight on the dust cover (Something I've never seen before and I've been in this game for 30 years) is going to make it difficult for any holster designed to accept the trigger guard of a 1911 sit in properly.
It's also so non-standard; I can't see any kydex holster working.

If I can figure out something that would work, I'll post.
OP, if you find something - I'd love to see what it was.

That frame looks like it was made for accurate shooting matches to add weight to hold it steadier. Doubt it was made for a holster?

So, I ended up buying the new DAA Flex with the A and B blocks so it can fits all my handguns... If it doesn t work with my colt, I have another 1911 that I could use in the classic division. Regarding this pistol, I've bought it used from Ellwood Epps in 2020 and I was told that the frame was like this so it could accept weight that could be screwed-in to add weight in front of the trigger. I sent the pistol to Black Box Custom to have the upper slide milled for the optic and cerakoted it black. Here are some pictures of before and after! I'll let you all know how it will turn out with the DAA Flex holster. I should have it next week hopefully.

Hi guys,

Here are the updates! I finally received my DAA flex holster with A and B insert. The insert that fits 1911 is the A... but the weird square frame of my gun didn't quite work with it as the trigger guard wasn't able to go low enough. With a lot of courage and nothing to loose... I ended up modding the cr*p out of the insert with my cheesel and my file. After about 2 hours, I'm pretty happy with the result and now my gun is fitting really good in the holster (and securely). In the end, I really like the DAA flex. It is super ajustable. With the insert A, I was able to fit my ''normal'' 1911, a HK P7 PSP and even a Luger P08! Here are some pictures.
