IPSC / IDPA who shoots to win ??

I went into IPSC just for fun. I actually borrowed a pistol for my BB and first few matches as I didn't think I'd be in the sport for long.

Once I met the people involved and I saw just how much fun it was, I was hooked. I still don't take it as seriously as some others, but I have gone from 'just shooting for fun' to 'let's see if I can win this thing'.

I shoot to have fun, to improve my own skills and to get to know my guns better. I am not so hung up on what place I finish, although I do like to feel that I did my best and I do get irritated by stupid mistakes. It helps that I am not very good yet so the urge to be competitive is not there yet :)

I shoot both sports to have fun, but for sure the competitive nature is more prominent in IPSC. I try not to take any of it too seriously.

I shoot to win, but that has to be tempered with realistic expectations. Locally I do quite well but I have never met my goal of cracking the top 20 in a national match.

If I can meet my expectations I'm happy, exceeding them is fantastic.

If I'm having a bad day and performing poorly I will not enjoy the match as much as when I'm meeting my expectations. However I've found that having too much of a good time will take my focus away from the shooting and my scores suffer.

Ultimately I'd like to win, but sometimes having a great day away from work with some fun people is enough.

IPSC is my hobby and I enjoy the game. Because it's a game it shouldn't be taken too seriously.

That having been said, I find the competitive aspect enjoyable and strive to improve with every match and every practice session. I feel best when I know I've performed at my best - even if I don't win the stage.

I know I will not win, but if I am at a match, I try to better myself. I used to shoot at compare my score to the people that shoot about the same as I do, but someone told me to pick the person that shoots better than I do and compete against that person. I find it keeps you competitive and involved, without being disappointed with not coming in first. It has worked; I have strived to beat two people at different matches, and I have managed to do so.

I shoot for fun first but measure succes by how well i did on a stage or match based on what i know i am capable of. If i shoot to my capability i am pleased if above it i am ecstatic. I always train to get better and am slowly improving.

I love the game and work hard to increase my performance from match to match. I know when I have had a good day and work on my short-comings when I didn't. Nothing feels better then when it all comes together on any given day!

I'm in it to win, have fun and to win. Love to see my name move up after each match. It tells me if I'm improving or not.

Try your best....
Have fun...
Don't get DQ'd...

Its all good

^^^ This in a nutshell describes how I look at competing.

I got into IDPA about two years ago and every time I've competed I try and take away as much as I possibly can be it: prizes, swag, tips and tricks, and a list of things I need to work on to improve myself. I have yet to leave a match without a smile on my face and having thoroughly enjoyed myself and I hope to keep it that way.

I believe that once something stops being fun, speaking of hobbies here, you need to step back and re-evaluate your outlook on it and whether or not you really want to continue.
