IPSC in the maritimes?

Good day,

I am looking at getting into IPSC and have a bunch of questions.

I live in Dartmouth, and I know the AMA guys are really big into IPSC, problem is unless I have been misinformed, the range is pistols only and only open tuesday and wednesdays for pistols. I do my shooting on weekends and enjoy being able to shoot all my firearms (rifles, shotguns etc.)

So my question is, assuming I just get my black badge done, who hosts the IPSC events and where at? If I am black badge qualified can I enroll in IPSC events throughout the maritimes? Are the events done provincially or do NS shooters go to NB and vice versa?

Thanks

Once your a member of IPSC, you can compete around the world if you want. You wont regret it, it's an awesome sport and it's really addicting :) For IPSC NS (ipscns[dot]ca), you can contact Sean at http://www.freedomventures.ca and a few other run the matches down there. During the summer they use the outdoor range a lot more.
Give him a call and he will be able to help you out.

For NB, you can visit us on our website at ipscnb(dot)ca for our 2012 schedule and more information. We have matches all summer long across the province. (pretty much 1 or 2 a weekend)

A lot of us travel and car-pool to distant matches to save on gas, (even to go shoot in other provinces) ask around and I'm sure somebody will help you out.

I know the AMA guys are really big into IPSC,

Very! AMA has hosted the IPSC Canada Nationals three times in the last 15 years.

problem is unless I have been misinformed, the range is pistols only and only open tuesday and wednesdays for pistols.
AMA is Tuesdays and Saturdays to the general membership. IPSC practice Wednesday night. Indoors is pistol & rimfire rifle only. Outdoors in the summer - Saturdays - you can just about shoot anything; but you're right - we're primarily a pistol club.

So my question is, assuming I just get my black badge done, who hosts the IPSC events and where at?
If you get your BB - you can attend IPSC competitions at any club in NS that hosts them - currently, that includes, Lunenburg RRC, AMA, & Musquodoboit VRRC - we hope to see Annapolis Valley SSC come back into the fold. Even if the club you belog to doesn't host IPSC matches, it won't keep you from coming to the IPSC NS matches at other clubs. (But we might put the bite on you to try to get it going at your club too... :) )

If I am black badge qualified can I enroll in IPSC events throughout the maritimes?
Yes, for that matter - you can enter any IPSC match in the world.

Are the events done provincially or do NS shooters go to NB and vice versa?
We go everywhere - nationally and internationally. We see NB, NL, PEI, QC and ON shooters come to our matches. (We'd be happy to see the guys further west; but understand it's a lot of coin to come all this way)

Call me at 902-455-5483 and I can explain everything you might want to know. I have a bit of a bias for AMA (being club president and all, but I've been known to recommend other clubs that might better suit your needs.)

The next black badge in Halifax is March 10/11 - with your email address, (you can email me it) I can send you the registration form and details.

Thanks a lot for the info,

Problem is I don't think I'm ready to dive right into this at the moment because of my ability to make the practices. Hopefully in the spring my work hours might be a little more suited to wed evening shoots.

No. U don't HAVE to attend every match or practice. The point is that it is there at your time. The first step is starting the ball rolling by getting your black badge! Do it! You will not regret it.

I understand but I'm definitely not going to get into IPSC if I can't attend the practices... I'll need it >.>

I'd rather wait to see if I'm really ready to get into IPSC right now before I take the BB

Shep, as a pistol owner you are fortunate to be living in the middle of one of the Maritimes' hot spots for IPSC shooting. Remember, IPSC doesn't run itself.

AMA has both a dedicated executive and an involved and sizable membership base which makes for a lot of excellent matches,,, year round. Its a mistake to consider only the scheduled practice nights in your assessment.

I'm not out to make up your mind for you but if you're looking for an opportunity to enjoy your pistol, you've found it.

Thanks for the info guys,

I'd like to get on that course as I understand they aren't done too often, problem is I don't have a holster/mag pouch.

If anybody knows somebody who would be welling to lend me a holster/pouch for a CZ shadow for the course I would be able to sign up for it.

Thanks,
Ben

Sean who posted in #3 just above is a site sponsor, and has holsters, belts and ma

g pouches...and sells mags that work well with your cz

Don't have the cash right now to drop on mag pouch, holster, $150 course fee, 10 boxes of ammo etc....

Like I was saying I just wanted to get the course done so I won't have to wait for another one down the road and just noticed in the other thread with the course info they mentioned they can sometimes find holster/pouches to lend for the course.
