Just got a quick question about IPSC membership renewals. It's been a few years since I've renewed my membership in IPSC and was wondering if it can just be renewed or if I have to redo the black badge course? Thanks

crankin, you should also contact the BB Training Coordinator IPSC Ontario too.

Hey Pat, why the new handle?

and that elitist attitude is why i will never shoot ipsc again

i was a member in the early years my old black badge was from 87
i competed for more than 10 years
I am still an active shooter (idpa/odpl), i run the club level holster and action pistol courses at my club.
I work as an action pistoll RO on a regular basis and was an ipsc RO for years.
I understand ipsc wants to get some of the old shooters back into the fold so to speak but the you have to start from scratch attitude leaves me kind of upset.
I believe there should be some mechanism where you can prove you are safe like maybe the qualification match and maybe do a rules update as they have changed quite a bit but that start over policy is designed to keep up the snotty "nose in the air" attitude ipsc ontario is known for

Huh? Known for? Have you contacted ipsc ontario about your situation? what response did you get?

IPSC rules did changed quite a lot since 87 and you did admitted that taking a refresher BB course would be beneficial to you in any case. So, what's the issue then, if you are interested in the sport?

Though using this kind of language won't get you far... and it shows that you aren't interested anyways...

Thank God someone speaking on behalf of IPSC Ontario is here to set us all straight and provide an attitude adjustment to boot. Hooray!

Ampegor, you should check your facts before mouthing off. I am an IPSC instructor and I recertified a shooter that had been off for a much longer period of time in one afternoon, at no charge. His BB number outdated yours by years, he had a number in the 40s. His employment had taken him away from the sport for 15+ years. All he was required to do was to sit with me for about one hour while we went through the Rule Book changes that have occurred since his last match, and there are many. Then he went through the shooting exercises that require movement and reloading, just to make sure he remembered how to do them within the rules, so as not to get disqualified. He did not have to jump through all the hoops the way a newcomer has to. No matter how qualified we were or think we are, after being away from an activity, a little refresher training is always good.

this info was from the quoted ipsc ontario policy as well as my club rep talking with instructors for me and i was told no go i was to be treated like any newbie

take that for whatever it is worth.

never had an issue with a "check-out" of my skills or safety but at least when i shot once you had your black badge you were part of "the sport". Now because i took some time off shooting ipsc for personal reasons i am on the outside looking in.

Redbird the scenario you described is what i was expecting but not what i was told.

ampegor, why listen to some broken phone instead of contacting IPSC Ontario or Ontario Black Badge coordinator directly? Then you could report back to us your own first hand experience...
