IPSC modified division anyone interested?

I'll be using this 45 ACP at the AMA match this weekend. Does this look like it would qualify as "Modified"?
It cost nowhere near $3M.

Yes - it's not $3K and it's as much a winner in IPSC Modified as would be any iron sight-comped 45 in Open.
Then again, when was the last time an iron sighted or 45ACP gun won Open division at a real match?
It would immediately be an arms race that would require scopes, hybrid barrels and double stack framed guns - $3K price tag.
Your very nice 45 there would be uncompetitive within 6 months and you'd be in the same position you currently are in Open. Shooting for fun, rather to win. So for you, what would be the point of Modified then?
Looking forward to seeing you Sunday. I just picked up 4 poppers for the match and it sounds like we'll have a good crowd.

You've been around long enough to know that ain't gonna happen. It has never happened in the past with any division; it won't happen if Modified got going.

Yes indeed, there is a guy here in Montreal with an SVI IMM. We brought it in for him, however it is in .38 Super, so as I understand it, it would be minor. It shoots very well, and is quite possibly one of the nicest (and original) guns I have ever seen.
Sean, that gun in the picture may just be legal here (restricted), just like the IMM. The upper end of the barrel is prohib length, but since it is slanted, the lower end is over the required minmum.
Yes, there are a few people here in Quebec who are building modified guns, but its certainly not because they trying to be the best in a new category, as they are indeed VERY good shooters, usually at the top of the competitor lists.

Hey - I'm just laying out what I know, I don't want anyone disappointed at the nationals if there isn't a modified division. More power to the guys that are starting it.
Not being a very competative shooter, perhaps I shouldn't have a voice in this. Still, there seems to be quite a gap in what works equipmentwise, between standard/production divisions and open. Wouldn't a modified division fill the gap a little, especially with respect to viable calibres? If so, it might not seem like such a quantum leap for developing shooters, in terms of time and $$ commitment, working their way from standard guns into things that seem more interesting.
If there's no interest in another division, fair enough. I have no axe to grind. I'll have fun regardless. I appreciate the work people go to to put on matches for current divisions and entertaining an extra division just so another shooter gets to take home a trinket wouldn't justify the extra work, I agree. Not at all. Modified guns cost as much as Open guns. If you want to start with something basic, fine. but as soon as someone else sticks a scope on their modified gun you will need one too if you want to have a hope of staying competitive. Then the compensator, next the chopping to get it all in the box...pretty soon you have a $3000.00+ gun and no significant division to shoot it in accept Open, and Open guns will just be more competitive because they are purpose built for Open.
For developing shooters I would always recommend starting out in Production and then moving to Standard or Open or even staying put depending on tastes and competitive drive.
