IPSC Nationals Refund

I think you will see future nationals having a statement on things like refund fees stated up front

Got mine as well tonight, minus the $15. I get that there were some expenses, cancellation fees, etc, but it still seems like $15 is a bit steep given that OPSL puts on Level 3s all across Southern Ontario so it’s not like they’d be starting from scratch. How long until Eugene comes around to make a mountain out of a molehill and tell me how wrong I am?

You sound as Eugene is making a huge profit out of those minus $15.

Had it occurred to you that Eugene might be a volunteer for any and all OPSL matches?

Had it occurred to you that the MD or OPLS hasn't canceled the Nationals? The IPSC Canada NEC did.

Sending EMTs cost money. There was the web site hosting, storage rental and other costs.

If $15 is your biggest problem, perhaps you've deserved that the 2020 Nationals was canceled.

PS: it seems like the cancellation of the two OPSL matches this year pretty much put an end to any future OPLS matches

$15 isn’t a big deal, but as with seemingly everything with this year’s Nationals a little communication can go a long way.

Why should competitors have to fork up $15 if the match was cancelled? For most people, it wasn't a withdrawal from the match (and even then, a withdrawal after the dates significantly changed seems like a good enough reason for a full refund) Especially if $15 fee was not agreed upon at registration.

The dollar amount doesn't matter. It's the principle of it.

I agree with you..I'm not 15$ short in the budget, but if you take all competitor 15$ it's make more than 5,000$. I don't think hosting a website, and it doesn't cost 10$ per shooter to refund them...there is an aspect of principle in that

At the end of the day, it's a measly 15bucks, get over it. Most guys will piss that away on dumber stuff anyways. I can guarantee that money was already spent on new steel and other props that cannot be returned. Props are not cheap now days.

Perhaps you should bring this up to all the section coordinators who been involved with decision to cancel match and ask them to compensate your $15.

Or better yet, host the Nationals one of the next years, so you can count your own expenses.

Like I said - it's the principle, not the dollar amount.

Otherwise, do I expect my $15 "investment" in new steel and other props to be paid back to me when said new steel and props are used for matches in the future where a profit is made?

Didn't take too long. His response was a lot more tame then I thought it would be... I'm shocked :stirthepot2:

I look at it as a $15 investment to ensure there are future matches...If MD’s for major matches are expected to take a significant loss when matches are cancelled outside of their control, the most likely outcome is less people willing to be MD’s and by extension, less major matches.

That said, moving forward it should become standard practice to disclose upfront what the hold back would be in the event the match is cancelled for reasons beyond the MD’s control.

Or at the very least an email after the fact explaining that the match was cancelled, why, that you would be receiving a refund, and that there would be a holdback and why. The lack of communication from the match director has been pathetic.

This has been a year of learning for all of us. I dot begrudge Alex the $15 refund fee, I know he had expenses he can't get back. But communication would have gone a long way in letting me and my section and the rest of the country, know why $15 was the amount picked.
Going forward I would expect there to be a very stringent match package that contains very specific language around refunds, cancelations etc.
