IPSC Nationals RO...unload & show clear?

In the first post I said "Would anyone care to comment on how they might have positioned themselves differently at unload and show clear?"

My question clearly implies that there might have been a different way to RO the process of ULSC..
Yes indeed....

Different.......

I suggested my one foot spinning and whistling option.

Does that not qualify as different?

So what you really wanted to say was a BETTER way to position themselves. That of course would lead to wondering why you would not come out and actually point out what your problem with the video was (we have identified other problems you have already).

Here let me try to help you.

In the first post I said "Would anyone care to comment on how they might have positioned themselves differently at unload and show clear?"

My question clearly implies that there might have been a different way to RO the process of ULSC. I stated the question as an open-ended statement, a technique recognized in business and law as appropriate to ferreting out information and ideas.

Thing is that in business and in the courts successful practitioners have learned to moderate their impulses and fears, and to stick to the matter at hand rather than rely on red herrings to make their case.

colecreek,
As RO with limited experience what would the correct way to process the ulsc procedure please educate me:confused::confused:

You know, just the other day I was thinking, "It's been over a year since the Oracle of Wilson Ave dropped off the map, and yet the world still orbits the sun."

I wonder if we just spotted a moondog?

And in the video is the RO being unsafe in any way shape or form? Not in my opinion. Neither is the shooter.

Nor I. Just the way Pats statement read was that all the RO had to worry about at the unload and show clear was to make sure the gun was pointed in a safe direction and that the hammer was down. There is more going on at that point then just that.

The way I look at the video, the RO walked from the left to right and didn't even issue the "If you are finished..." command until he had view of the gun again over the shooter's right shoulder.

I'm not so sure about his footwear though, but I find the video inconclusive in that regard.

@Stormbringer. I don't have a bone to pick with you. How could I? I don't know you, or colecreek for that matter. What I do know is that suggestions to elicit feedback sometimes get construed as being an attack.

Let me elaborate; recently we (Alberta) had discussions on how we could curb the high attrition rate of new members, as well as how we could increase revenues. The discussions were largely well received but a segment of the contributors felt that I clearly view the way things are being done as "bad", if I am suggesting alternatives that are "good".

The reality is that there are no "good" or "bad", just alternatives that may lead to something better, or some type of enlightenment; maybe not. I don't think colecreek was attempting to be critical; I don't know. But an enquiry shouldn't be met with hostility; God forbid. Fresh thinking or perspectives can only come about if we allow people to enquire, regardless of how "stupid" such an enquiry may seem.

In any case; this is a storm in a teacup. We are ultimately all on the same side aren't we?

Just my opinion.

This is a very good example as to why Video's are not allowed into our sports for RO'ing....camera angle can change everything......

The shooter actions are judge on the moment and dealt with accordingly!

just saying!

OK I've had enough. As someone who was there & watched every competitor D ROed I found no issue's with his work. He was alway's in position to properly observe the process of ULSC. The towel -to keep sun off neck. Why are you worried about periferal vision when his focus is the gun & shooter & there are 6 other ROs out of the camera shot. Yes the towels were rough but the TP could give a man a callus. And damm straight this is a perfect example of why video is not allowed to make calls in our sport. For me it all boils down to what I always told my kid when she gave me the but so & so said. Were you there? NO. Enough said.

I don't think he wanted to bash on the RO job, he was asking for others opinion to compare to his based on the video... nothing wrong with that.

Just hope that everybody will have their smiles back for next week @ SummerSlam !!!
