IPSC online sign up

John, obviously the OP question is related to situation with IPSC matches in Ontario (more specifically, with about 1200 members all local matches are filling up very quick).

Of course there are really only two logical solutions for that problem set

1) less shooters

2) more matches.

Which do you prefer?

The reality is that CGN is a commercial web site which is still not an official resource of IPSC Ontario.[/quote}
I am not sure that the OP wanted an "official" postion as his question was surrounding IPSC-matches.net which you and th BOD have been VERY CLEAR is not affiliated with IPSC Ontario at all.

All IPSC Ontario members had voted on their Board of Directors, which is supposed to act on their behalf, coordinate and promote IPSC sports in the province.

And where is the best place to promote IPSC shooting?

CGN of course! Along with people in line at grocery stores, locial TV stations, radio, Outdoor shows, Gun club Club Open houses etc. (all of which I have done personally and am not a member of the BOD)

I believe it makes sense to contact the board directly with any concerns related to IPSC in Ontario.

Or one can ask.............here! The two are not mutually exclusive. Perhaps someone wants to feel the pulse of the shooting fraternity at a more grass roots level. To know the truth you would have to ask the OP. I cannot fathom why he would approach the issue here instead of the channels you propose........but the truth of the matte is HE DID!

There is more then that. For example, bigger matches, more expensive matches and so on.

Here is when you've got your facts wrong. I was simply quoting text from the ipsc-matches.net site: "this system is independent of any one IPSC organization and outside of their control".

Almost two years ago I offered help to extend and improve ipsc-matches.net. My offer been declined, so I promised here that I will build my own system and I've been working on it since then at my own free time.

Cool! So, you finally came to the same conclusion. Back to my original question.

Lol, I like that "[on] on my free time" part. Please show me any of the people involved in doing or running IPSC who are NOT doing so on their own free time.
Very few people get paid for this, and none of those who do are around here, as far as I know.

As far as "extending and improving" - well, as far as I can tell, there is only one issue which people are complaining about: being unable to sign up for matches which fill up too quickly. Well, if you have 60 slots and 400 shooters who want to participate, there is no way most of the people won't get disappointed...

Yes, there was an idea to open matches at some fixed time, but realistically speaking, I decided to leave it up to the match directors. They can open the matches up at any time, and everyone gets informed by email of that within few/several minutes. If they want to always open it at 10pm, then can. If they want to open it at 6pm, they can.

I always strive for maximum flexibility to let the individual clubs or MDs to do whatever THEY feel works for them the best, rather than impose something which I feel they should like/want.

Beyond this issue, I'm not aware of anything else which people are complaining about, or want changed.... Pretty much everything else that was suggested (waiting lists, work squads, prepay matches, tracking last min dropouts, etc) was implemented.
If there is any widespead dis-satisfaction with the system, I am not aware of it, and I keep getting msgs to the contrary - so I don't know what any of the problems are supposed to be here...

recruitment

This and other current threads are sure to bring into the sport those looking for some chill-out times on their days off. Not.

Craig, no need to put words in my mouth. Danian system always been independent from everyone, so it will be up to him to phase it out.

Craig, IPSC Ontario BOD always been saying it is up to MDs what they want to use for match signup. At the same time BOD felt a need to have their own system, which they've got now.

I don't see anyone getting defensive here, lol...

I don't know anything about whatever system anyone else is implementing or making available. however if there is a move towards pushing ("encouraging") clubs to use an ipsc ont own system, let me know so I wont bother migrating mine to a better/more reliable hosting service.
I have no desire to get into a pissing match with ipsc ont, if they want the clubs to use their system, by all means. I'm not going to compete with them, this is a hobby, not a job :)

The only issue with an ontario-only approach.is that it might cause issues for Quebec shooters who want to shoot matches in RA, EOHC, Grenville, etc. If that's addressed, great.

I really think that it is pointless and stupid to have multiple systems for match directors and shooters to use. If there is an "official" system to use, we should probably get everyone to use that.
I don't believe for a sec another system was developed just in case some MDs wanted an alternative: if ipsc ont developed its own system it's because it wants to take over match
scheduling. Now they are saying it's optional; in 3 months clubs will be encouraged to use their system. in 6 months roadblocks will be placed in front of matches not using their system. in 12 months it'll be a requirement for sanctioning.

I have no interest in getting in the middle of that.

I'm probably going to email all the club admins I have in my system, ask them to look at whatever is available from ipsc ont, and ask them if they want to keep using my system, or the new one. if there is any desire from people to switch, by all means, let them switch. In the meanwhile I will keep mine where it is....

It is indeed addressed.

Not really. It been developed because members asked for it and also to provide more advanced features and better service to the match directors. For example, having up to date competitor names is one of such features.

Also, there is also outlaw and non-ipsc matches, including USPSA and 3gun and other stuff that can't be hosted in IPSC Ontario system.

In six years I have never had a problem with the current system, easy to use, straight forward the way it should be. Never missed a match I wanted to attend and I don't have a blackberry, smartphone etc.

Thanks Damian
