IPSC Ontario approved handguns list

Actually it is IPSC Ontario's business what gun you shoot with, at IPSC Ont matches at least. Either it makes the list for Production/Optics division, fits the box for Standard, makes the criteria for Classic, or is a Revolver, and lastly, is an Open gun, although you can use pretty much any modern pistol in Open if you want.

I see all these posts about the horrible gun handling, skills, attitudes and so on at IPSC matches and I wonder, where are you finding these less than stellar examples? I've shot at matches around the globe, Asia, Russia, all over Europe, South America, North America and so on. Outside of a few specific individuals I've seldom seen anything like I hear about. I'd guess based on the stories I hear from people that don't shoot IPSC that every match they've observed, or maybe even participated in once, there are dozens and dozens of morons, idiots and massive safety issues and poor sports. Yet strangely in all the matches I've shot over the last 20 some years, that isn't what I've seen. So my opinion is that these people with these wild ass stories? They are full of sh!t.

Maybe you're not looking hard enough!

I did shoot IPSC for a few years with a box standard BHP with adjustable sights, rubber grips, and no mag disconnect. I've been around matches enough to know my score is unimportant - hitting the target as well as I can with the equipment at hand is more important. Seeing my gun has been dropped just reinforces my observations that some competitors (and this is not exclusive to IPSC) prefer to win with jury challenges without accepting the sportsmanship of a match.

As others have pointed out, your gun is good to go in IPSC a Classic Division. I don’t understand what it is you want here? The IPSC division rules are in place to ensure that (relatively) like guns compete against each other. And your SA gun in Production would be a significant advantage in that division. So if you want to use it, fine, use it, but use it in Classic against other Classic shooters. If your score is truly ‘unimportant’ to you, what’s the problem shooting your gun is Classic?

In my experience have found many of the most vocal ex-IPSC bashers who claim they’re just shooting for ‘fun’ and their scores are ‘unimportant’ to them, are some of the most competitive types who never seemed to achieve the IPSC ‘greatness’ they thought they deserved. And when they discover they don’t stack up, they quit the game and take their ball home. Not saying this is you, but in my experience it is the case with many of the most vocal bitter IPSC gripers.

Now back to Six Nations France Vs Scotland:)

Did they change the rules for Classic? I thought it was a 1911 only division?

A BHP is not a classic division gun. It would be a Standard division gun....or open

Do you think the general public are more apt to accept "shooting sports" as a "sport" if they see a bunch of people wearing printed shirts / jerseys similar to just about every other type of "sport" out there or a bunch of people running around looking like Rambo.

Rugby players, baseball players, tennis, golf, hell even racket ball players wear clothing and equipment specific to their sport. And yet there are those who are butt hurt about what people do or wear in IPSC. Why ? If you want to shoot a Luger and keep your mags in your back pocket, thats great. Have fun. But IPSC is not for you so move along. It serves no purpose whining about what one does not understand or approve of.

One point I'd like to make about IPSC attire.

When you watch youtube videos; 99% of IPSC shooters are wearing a flamboyant hockey-jersey of some sort.

But when you go to your local IPSC match; It's only like 5% of guys who dress like that.
About 95% are just wearing jeans and a T-shirt.

I've noticed this at the high level, kinda makes me want to wear my old paintball jerseys if I get started into this (if they still fit)

CLOTHs; Go to a good cowboy action shoot, the hat is most important, then the boots and perfect 800 dollar holsters. Yea got have some guns too.
IPSC accuracy, I heard the story's about poor accuracy, was surprised how good they all were and how poor I was. Speed for a good score with accuracy is hard to beat.
I have a variety of firearms. Find a game that suits what you have or sell some to get the ones that work for the game you wish to play.
I respect IPSC due to the enforcement of the rules, fair for all.
I find it hard to slag any gun game due to my lack of performance. I will continue to shoot a variety of types of shooting for the grin factor.

IPSC scores fall off really fast if you miss the target entirely or hit a penalty target, so whoever gets all their rounds into the targets fastest probably won the match. Yes, the A zone is better than the C or D zones, but the edge of the target and the timer and not DQ'ing (disqualifying) are what matter most.

Like Eugene said and as a rule IPSC matches don't specifically say what divisions they'll recognize - they recognize whatever divisions people register for.
Awards? It's not kid's soccer - there are no participation trophies. Awards are give out based on beating others in your division.

True story. The 2016 IPSC NB provincials had participation awards. Some of us actually turned them down when they were being handed out.
