IPSC Ontario Elections 2007

How about voting for an "Election Chairperson" from our membership that DOES NOT sit on Board or have a say in the Boards day to day activities?

He would only be called upon to organize and administer any elections or votes that occur during his term. Maybe like a 5 year term or so.

The membership may choose a member that would be perfect for the Election Chairpersons job but might not have ever voted for them as a Board member.

(I know... I know... Who supervises the election of the Election Chairman... blah... blahh... blahhh.)

As a matter of interest...this is exactly how it's been done for the last 10 or 15 years (before most of us were even members)...and certainly not the first time Bud has filled the poistion.

Why is it all of the sudden an issue

If my recollection serves me correctly... during the last election that I voted for a Board Member... the ballots were not sent to the little town of Lindsay.

I am not implying anything on here, but I was honestly quite surprised when I saw that the ballots had to be sent to Lindsay. Just because it's been done that way for the last 10 to 15 years (which, as noted above, I don't think is the case,) doesn't make it the best way to do it. It doesn't have to be done like the "Old Boy's Club" have been doing it for years... the change may be refreshing.

Why is it all of the sudden an issue

Since you asked... (And I was trying to stay out of this...) Not all of the sudden for me... and speaking for myself only... I think I have taken a little more of an interest in this election because of the situation that occured with a nomination form being rejected (deemed invalid) by a BOARD MEMBER for an election to the same BOARD. I just think I got a whiff of some stinky s**t from the beginning. As I am sure others did too!

Cheers, Eh?

By the way Quig... I am just trying to get caught up here on GN... I haven't been around on here for a couple of weeks... (the s**t can really pile up fast on here).

With the expection of 6 years ago ...when I was the election Chairman (and not on the board) the ballots have been returned to one of two addresses (both Board members) At least to the best of my recolection. I've only been a member since 2000.

I'm not suggesting that there's not a better way...but brining it up after the election has started is not very helpfull. I think some people are making it personal...and that's a shame.

I can assure you that this is very disheartening for the people that donate so much of their spare time to run your organization. Members of the board are paying members just like everyone else...

I guess no good deed goes unpunished.

Going way back to when Trenton Hosted the provincial championships I was the election chairman. The vote for the board was done by all those that attended the AGM held at the provincial championships as it was in the years before that. I and my then better half collected the ballots that were marked at that meeting and counted them right then and there at the meeting .The mail in ballots came into being a couple years after that I believe. This did work to a point but was limited to those that could attend this meeting and was unfair to the rest of the membership which I think at the time was around 1600 members.
Even with the possibility of phony ballots this method is by far the fairest way of doing it... even with board member counting the votes .. Give Bud credit for having intregrity and taking on this job on top of all the other things he does so that we can have all the benifits that we have that he is in charge of adminstering.

You should let me count them..I dont give a #### who wins..I will work for beer. Interestingly enough my copy of sitrep didnt have any ballots in it so I didnt vote..

Yeah well I wasnt to sure who to vote for anyways...The only thing different I would like to see is more BBQs, more Texas Stars and using targets filled with Tannerite... I suppose its just as well I didnt vote. I hope next year I can get out more often then this year.

"Members of the board are paying members just like everyone else..."
some just get reimbursed more for their effort. For the record I don't mean Quigs, so don't start hacking on him, atleast not on account of this.

Why stop there.. people can easily send in multiple ballots with other names on it..

Heck they they can even change the ballot. Photocopy it and add thier own name on it..

The membership would be better served by members who would rather be proactive and help promote the sport, and help it get better.. not sit back under an account with 1 post, and snipe from the back row..

if you got a problem, then get involved and help fix it. don't be some whiner who sits backs and complains but never offers help..

I have been thoroughly chastised and I will certainly slink off with my tail between my legs.

I did not realize until just now that you were 1254 times better than I and therefore had 1254 times more right to post on anything pertaining to IPSC. I do most humbly apologize.

Being woefully ignorant, I did not understand that pointing out how our election system might be improved was considered to be whining, complaining and even unhelpful. Again, I do most humbly apologize.

As you are so much more erudite than I, I will in the future rely on your wisdom to guide me on what to think and when to think it.

They sell coloured paper at Staples

Since you have so much free time on your hands...why not try little experiment

Take a piece of coloured paper...let's say purple. Run it throgh a photo copier and copy in on more coloured paper ...let's also say purple...let us know how it comes out.

Then try lightening it so the dark background gets washed out...and let us know how that turns out.

give it a rest, everyone... it's too late for this one, give it a few months, and bring this up in the summer if you have comments/suggestions/etc...

Don't have the ballot anymore to look at but, how hard would it be to scan it, remove the purple then re print it on a purple sheet? If money can be broke then this can, it's just a matter of if the effort is worth the gain.

Somebody probably got sent my ballot...so if its a close election and somebody wins by one vote........

first time I ever get to correct HB on anything (cool, too bad it's about envelopes).
the year I did the elections for BC we mailed out the ballots with a return envelope that had a control number on it, this number was attached to a member of IPSCBC. a special post office box was rented and all the envelopes were picked up on the same day we counted them, with the reps being present for the picking up of the envelopes.the representatives for each candidate watched as control numbers were then checked off the master list. then all the envelopes were opened and the unmarked envelope inside was dumped into one big bin. The envelopes were then mixed up and opened, with each ballot being recorded. No one knew who voted for what, and with the reps being present everyone could watch to see what was happening to ensure impartiality. I believe this is still the way IPSCBC does it. why anyone would not take the steps to ensure impartiality I don't understand.
